The 2017 Hyundai Verna sedan has been officially unveiled in China prior to its debut at the upcoming Chengdu motor show. The carmaker had earlier previewed the new sedan with a namesake concept that was displayed at the 2016 Beijing motor show in April.

The new car’s styling stays faithful to the concept's, although the light clusters, bumpers, wheels and grille have been scaled down for the production model. The design is based on Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language with front-end styling quite similar to the larger Elantra's. The 2017 Verna is 4,380mm long, 1,728mm wide and 1,460mm high, which means it is 5mm longer and 28mm wider but sits 15mm lower than the current car. The increased dimensions could mean added space for its occupants.

The new Verna's interior gets a simple layout which is quite similar to the Elantra's. A large touchscreen unit sits at the centre and is expected to take on audio, video and navigation duties. While the China-spec car has black interiors, the Indian car could get a dual-tone setup.

The top-spec variant will get equipment like projector headlamps with LED DRLs, fog lamps, a chrome-finished grille, large alloy wheels, and a sunroof. For China, the new Verna is expected to be offered with a choice of four-cylinder petrol motors, while for India, it is likely to carry forward the existing range of petrol and diesel engines.

In India, the new Verna will rival the likes of the Honda City, the Maruti Ciaz, the Fiat Linea, the Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid.
