Tesla has unveiled its fifth Supercharger outlet in India by inaugurating a new site in Navi Mumbai. This site is approximately 8km from the new Navi Mumbai International Airport and roughly 30km from Mumbai’s International Airport, situated in the underground parking lot of the Nexus Seawoods mall. The American brand claims that this site was chosen due to its strategic location for customers travelling between Mumbai and Pune.

Tesla currently operates 20 Superchargers in India
With the inauguration of its fifth Supercharger outlet, Tesla currently operates 20 Superchargers in the country. Additionally, the American marque has 14 Destination Chargers – essentially 11kW AC chargers. Besides the newly inaugurated Navi Mumbai site, Tesla’s charging network is currently available only across Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram – all chosen based on their strategic importance for Tesla customers, the brand claimed.
So, in total, there are 34 Tesla-branded chargers (DC fast chargers and standard AC chargers) in the country at present. The brand is expected to be working on installing more Superchargers, mainly on high-traffic routes between major metropolitan hubs such as Bengaluru, Chennai and Chandigarh, among others.

Tesla charges its customers Rs 24 per kWh to use its Supercharger, which is capable of putting out up to 250kW. As for its 11kW ‘Destination Chargers’, the brand charges Rs 14 per kWh. All of these facilities are operated and maintained by Tesla, with no third-party involvement. There is no complimentary charging, regardless of the tenure, upon purchasing a new Tesla in India. For the time being, all of Tesla’s chargers in India are reserved for its own customers, unlike several markets abroad, where other electric cars can also use its Superchargers.

Tesla only has one model on sale in India
The Tesla line-up in India is currently limited to the Model Y, which is available in Standard and Long Range variants. The company is likely considering further expanding its portfolio in the country, but there is no official confirmation on future models for our market. As for the Tesla Model Y’s price, it ranges between Rs 59.89 lakh and Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Customers can pay an additional Rs 6 lakh for the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, which, as the name suggests, makes the EV capable of driving itself. However, it is a feature that will only be possible once Indian regulations allow autonomous driving.
