Hi Autocar Team, I am Surya from Hyderabad. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and chilrdren 13 and 16 years old) and planning to buy an EV car. Our budget is around 55-65 lakhs. We have shortlisted BMW iX1, Tesla Model Y L and Merc CLA. We are worried about ground clearance with Tesla and Merc while range with BMW. Our drive is mostly within city and once in a month drive to our native place which is 350 kms from Hyderabad. Can you help me choosing right car for my family? Thanks in advance !!

Hey Surya! For your needs, I would recommend the BMW iX1. It offers decent range for city driving and those monthly trips. The Tesla Model Y is great for range too, but the ground clearance is a concern for Indian roads. The Merc CLA is stylish but might feel cramped for a family of four on longer drives. The iX1 balances comfort and practicality well for your family. Happy car hunting!

It also offers a higher seating position, better visibility and a more modern feature set than the Hyundai i20, while still being easy to drive in the city. The i20 is a good car, but at Rs 9.5 lakh you will be limited to lower variants, and the Exter feels like a more complete package at this price point. The Nissan Magnite and Tata Punch are both strong value propositions, but the Exter's cabin quality and overall refinement are a step above. The Punch's naturally aspirated petrol engine is also not as refined or as punchy as the Exter's unit. Overall, the Exter strikes the best balance between cabin quality, comfort and value within your budget.
