The American EV maker’s September sales performance came during a record month for India’s electric passenger vehicle (e-PV) market, which registered monthly retail sales of 35,995 units; Tesla accounted for 0.8 percent of the total e-PV sales. It also moved up to second place in the luxury e-PV segment for the first time, outselling Mercedes-Benz India, which clocked 125 units. BMW India was the segment leader with 502 units and a 51 percent share. Tesla’s share of the luxury e-PV market rose to 30 percent in September 2026 from 11 percent a year earlier. Tesla Model Y L AWD

From September 2025 until June 2026, the Model Y recorded monthly deliveries in double digits. Sales rose 205 percent month on month to 116 units in July compared to just 38 units in June. Between July and October 2, Tesla delivered 554 Model Ys, accounting for 54 percent of its total sales so far. This came after Tesla India cut the Model Y Premium RWD base trim’s price by Rs 9 lakh in May, bringing it down to Rs 50.89 lakh. The Tesla EV is available in five-seater (Model Y) and six-seater (Model Y L) iterations. Compared to the top-spec Model Y L Premium AWD, the Model Y Premium RWD costs Rs 11.1 lakh less.

The Model Y rivals the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Rs 55.71 lakh), Kia EV6 (Rs 65.98 lakh) and BYD Sealion 7 (Rs 49.4 lakh to Rs 55.9 lakh).
