Renault will be the fourth carmaker in India to offer factory-fitted CNG kits, after Maruti, Tata and Hyundai.

Renault India will soon introduce a new factory-fitted CNG kit on the Triber. The compact MPV has been available with a dealer-fit CNG cylinder since 2025, but it takes up most of the boot space. The big news is that the factory-fitted kit will use a dual-cylinder setup positioned under the MPV’s floor.

  2. Will be offered with a new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
  3. Under-floor fitment means it will not compromise boot space

In February, the Nissan Gravite, the badge-engineered sibling of the Triber, was also showcased with a dual-CNG cylinder setup. However, on the Gravite, the cylinders were stacked vertically, effectively leaving no space in the boot at all. Renault has, however, found a solution by integrating the dual cylinders into the chassis under the boot, thus preserving the luggage space. This has been enabled by thorough re-engineering of the CMF-A platform which has now been rebranded as RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform).

Triber's CMF-A platform has been re-engineered and is now called RGEP.

The best part is that the CNG version will use the HR10, 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that’s finally back on cards for the Triber. This engine already does duty on the Kiger, and produces 100hp and 160Nm of torque. The exact state-of-tune in CNG spec remains to be seen. Importantly, this will finally address Triber customers’ two biggest demands – more power and CNG running costs – in one go.

Renault Kiger also set to get turbo-CNG powertrain

The same turbo-CNG powertrain will also be offered on the Kiger compact SUV. Like the Triber, the Kiger will also move to the new RGEP base, thus enabling the new dual CNG cylinder setup.

Renault Triber CNG launch timeline

The company plans to launch the factory-fitted CNG kits around September-October this year, which means it will come during the festive season. The dealer-fit CNG kits were priced from Rs 69,000 to Rs 1.08 lakh, depending on the model and variant. It remains to be seen at what premium the factory-fitted unit will come.

Triber turbo-CNG is expected to launch around the festive season this year.

The move to offer a factory-fitted CNG kit was likely prompted by the increasing popularity of CNG in the entry-level segments. In fact, with a market share of 21.98 percent in FY2026, CNG is now the second-most popular fuel among Indian car buyers and has outsold diesel for two years in a row. In the price-sensitive segment in which the Triber operates, the reduced running costs due to CNG will be a huge boon for buyers.
