One of the main shareholders of the PSA group, the Peugeot family, are reportedly open to support an acquisition or merger with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). The Peugeot family’s support for this move comes due to the success of the PSA Group’s purchase of Vauxhall-Opel. The PSA Group currently comprises Citroën, DS, Peugeot and Vauxhall-Opel.
The PSA group had cited the FCA Group (which consists of brands like Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Maserati, Dodge, Ram, Jeep and more) as a potential target for acquisition in the past. They have also shown interest in acquiring Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover.
The merger with or acquisition of FCA by PSA is a sensible move considering the latter is planning to re-launch the Peugeot brand in North America, where the former has a major presence. A deal between the companies would give the French brand access to infrastructure in that market.
The CEO of FCA group, Mike Manley, recently stated that they would be open to increasing cooperation with other car firms, be it in terms of a partnership, joint ventures or something more.
At this point, nothing has been confirmed with regards to a merger or acquisition between the PSA Group and FCA Group. Only time will tell whether these plans materialise.
