New Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 crash test results

The model tested by ANCAP was the Australian-spec Land Cruiser which is equipped with dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting airbags, as well as driver and passenger knee airbags as standard. Safety kit like autonomous emergency braking, lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW), emergency lane keeping (ELK), and an advanced speed assistance system (SAS) is also standard on all variants of the Land Cruiser.

In the crash tests, the Land Cruiser LC300 scored 34.08 out of a possible 38 points for adult occupant protection (89 percent) and 43.60 points out of 49 for child occupant protection (88 percent). The SUV also scored 44.02 out of 54 points (81 percent) for vulnerable road user protection, while the model's safety assist systems scored 12.40 points from 16 (77 percent).

The Land Cruiser was adjudged to have “performed well across all areas of assessment”. The 5-star safety rating applies to all variants of the new Toyota Land Cruiser, except the GR Sport, which was not assessed. However, it is also worth noting that this rating is not representative of the Global NCAP’s rating as the ANCAP tests follow different parameters for the crash tests.

New Toyota Land Cruiser LC300: what else is known

The new-generation Toyota Land Cruiser was revealed internationally in June last year. Engine choices for the new Land Cruiser LC300 start with a new 3.5-litre, twin-turbo V6 petrol that makes 409hp and 650Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox and, according to Toyota, does 0-100kph in 6.7sec. Additionally, there will also be a 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel that's good for 305hp and 700Nm of torque.

The new LC300 comes with a ground clearance of 230mm, 4WD as standard and three differential locks. Additionally, the new Land Cruiser comes with a more advanced Multi-Terrain Select system, now featuring Deep Snow and Auto modes, while the Multi-Terrain Monitor system incorporates an underbody camera.

The new-gen SUV gets a completely overhauled interior, with an optional 12.3-inch touchscreen in the centre (standard is 9.0-inch). The features list includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera and a head-up display. On the higher variants, a powered tailgate will also be available, along with an electrically adjustable steering wheel, air ioniser, and even a fingerprint authentication system.

Given that Toyota was selling the previous-gen Land Cruiser LC200 in India until BS6 emission norms were introduced, we expect the new Land Cruiser LC300 to be offered here as well.
