Maruti Suzuki’s UV market leadership since FY2018

The Ertiga, along with the Brezza compact SUV, has been instrumental in making Maruti Suzuki the utility vehicle (UV) market leader for the past nine fiscal years since FY2018. That fiscal year saw Maruti (2,53,759 UVs) snatch the No. 1 UV maker title from longstanding segment leader Mahindra & Mahindra (2,33,915 UVs), a crown it has held since then.

Maruti Ertiga’s FY2027 sales momentum

The Ertiga missed the 2 lakh sales milestone by a whisker – just 1,673 units – in FY2026. But it’s set to cross the 2 lakh wholesale mark for the first time in a fiscal year in FY2027. With 95,646 units sold in the past five months, including its highest monthly sales since launch – 21,606 units in July 2026 – the Ertiga should go on to surpass sales of 2.25 lakh in FY2027.

Its main rivals are the Kia Carens and the Toyota Rumion, both of which sell in far fewer numbers each month than the Ertiga. It is essentially a value-focussed seven-seater built for buyers who seek space and low running costs over outright excitement.
