The Dzire has become the fourth Maruti model to surpass the production milestone of 35 lakh units, following the Alto, Swift and Wagon R hatchbacks. The sedan took about 18 years and 9 months to cross this mark. It is currently in its fourth generation, which was launched in 2024.

Production of the Dzire, earlier called the Swift Dzire, began in January 2008, ahead of its March 2008 introduction. Later, Maruti dropped the Swift moniker with the third-generation model in 2017.

The Maruti Dzire took around 4 years and 6 months from the start of production to reach the 5 lakh-unit milestone in July 2012. Production picked up pace thereafter, with the next 5 lakh units being rolled out in just 2 years and 9 months. The Dzire then crossed the 15 lakh-unit mark in another 2 years and 3 months.

However, production slowed over the next 10 lakh units, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sedan reached 25 lakh cumulative units in June 2022, around 5 years after crossing the 15 lakh mark. From there, it took 4 years and 4 months to reach 35 lakh units. This is considerably quicker than the very first 10 lakh units, which took Maruti Suzuki 7 years and 3 months to produce.

As mentioned earlier, the Dzire is currently in its fourth generation, powered by an 83hp 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and also available with a 70hp CNG option. Both come with manual and automated manual transmission (AMT) options, priced from Rs 6.31 lakh to Rs 9.54 lakh (ex-showroom). The Maruti Dzire rivals the Tata Aeris, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura.
