Genesis X Convertible: what is it?

The X Convertible follows the two-door coupe X concept from 2021 and the high-performance X Speedium concept that was revealed this April.

Luc Donckerwolke, chief creative officer for the Genesis X Convertible, said “It is the normal development of Genesis to increase the athletic and emotional facet of our design philosophy by creating an emotional trilogy: the X family. Electric powertrains have given us the perfect scenario in which to enjoy nature, which is something convertibles do better than any other vehicle.”

He added, “with the Genesis X Convertible, we have built upon the stunning success of the X Concept and X Speedium Coupe to further propel the brand’s mission to create vehicles with even greater emotional resonance.”

Genesis X Convertible: design

Hyundai’s luxury division says the X Convertible concept marks the latest step in its ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language. It features short overhangs, long bonnet and a long wheelbase, described by Genesis as a “classic ‘Coke bottle’ shape” when viewed from above.

The X Convertible’s front end has a unique quad-LED light design with design inspiration taken from Genesis’ first internal-combustion models. At the rear, it’s fitted with the same quad tail-lights as the X Speedium Coupe and the X Concept, while the tailgate design is inspired by the wings and crest of the Genesis logo.

Cooling for the brakes has been bolstered by the use of special wheels with a concave aero dish, and the cooling function for the powertrain and batteries has been relocated lower down in the front bumper.

The exterior of the concept features a bright white finish, which, Genesis says, is inspired by the white crane – a symbol of sanctity and nobility in the firm’s home country of South Korea.

The brand has hinted at its sustainability push in the cabin too, and the latest concept’s four individual seats are made from recyclable wool fabric. The primary colours used are Giwa Navy and Dancheong Orange – both inspired by traditional Korean roof architecture. A large wraparound digital instrument cluster has been integrated into the centre console.

Genesis in India

We had reported back in 2019 that Genesis was looking to enter the Indian market, with its first model likely to be an SUV. Although Genesis currently has two SUVs on sale globally – the GV80 and GV70 – it is not yet known which will come to India first.

Although there is no information if Genesis is planning to introduce its sedan line-up in India, the G80 sedan has been spotted testing here and could be on the cards for an India launch later.
