KTM 390 Enduro R Expert Review
9.0
The KTM 390 Enduro R is based on the 390 Adventure but gets slimmer bodywork and a more off-road-focused design. It features an 18-inch rear wheel, 60/40 Mitas E-07+ tyres and a taller, adjustable handlebar. The build is solid, although the India-spec model gets less suspension travel than the international version.
8.0
The riding position is more suited to off-road riding than the 390 Adventure, with a taller handlebar and natural standing ergonomics. The India-spec bike has an 860mm seat height, making it more accessible than the international version. The slim and firm seat is typical of an off-road-focused motorcycle, while the flat shape should offer reasonable comfort for daily use.
8.0
The 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine produces 46hp and 39Nm. The larger rear sprocket keeps the overall gearing similar to the 390 Adventure, while the engine delivers an exciting but manageable power delivery. However, it lacks the strong low-end torque of a purpose-built off-road engine and can stall when pulling away at low revs.
8.0
Despite the reduced suspension travel, the 390 Enduro R performs impressively off-road. Revised damping and increased spring preload help it handle rocks, jumps, loose surfaces and steep sections with confidence. The Mitas tyres offer good grip and feedback, while the bike feels lighter and less top-heavy than the 390 Adventure. However, the suspension reaches its limits during aggressive riding over bigger jumps.
7.0
The 390 Enduro R gets a 4.2-inch TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation assistance, two riding modes, traction control and switchable ABS. Off-Road mode deactivates the rear ABS, while a dedicated button allows the front ABS to be switched off. The traction control works well off-road and allows controlled wheelspin. However, the TFT display does not include a fuel gauge.
8.0
The KTM 390 Enduro R is a capable and enjoyable dual-sport motorcycle that offers strong off-road ability despite its reduced suspension travel in India. It is not a competition-spec enduro, but its approachable nature, useful electronics and capable chassis make it suitable for trail riding and recreational off-roading.
