Kawasaki Versys 1100 Expert Review
7.0
The Versys 1100 has a functional design rather than a stylish one. Its large front section, bulky bodywork and oversized seats give it a unique appearance. Build quality is solid, and the focus is clearly on comfort. The semi-digital instrument cluster, however, feels dated for a motorcycle in this segment.
9.0
Comfort is one of the Versys 1100's biggest strengths. The upright riding position, neutral ergonomics and good wind protection make long rides easy. The rider and pillion seats are spacious and highly comfortable, making it an excellent choice for two-up touring.
8.0
The 1,099cc inline-four engine produces 135hp and 112Nm. It delivers power in a smooth and linear manner instead of an aggressive rush, making it well suited for touring. The engine feels calm at cruising speeds but becomes exciting as the revs rise, accompanied by a pleasing intake sound. It is flexible enough to pull cleanly from 30kph in sixth gear. In city traffic, the clutch can feel heavy and some heat is noticeable from the right side.
8.0
Despite its 257kg weight, the Versys feels well balanced once on the move. It is stable and confidence-inspiring on highways and flowing corners but is not meant for aggressive riding. The adjustable suspension handles bad roads well, although serious off-roading is limited by its weight, road-focused tyres and modest ground clearance.
8.0
The Versys 1100 comes with three traction control levels, two power modes and cruise control. However, it misses features like heated grips and a standard quickshifter, while the semi-digital display feels outdated.
8.0
The Kawasaki Versys 1100 is built for riders who prioritise long-distance comfort, a refined inline-four engine and relaxed touring ability. It may feel large and old-school in some areas, but it offers a unique riding experience that is difficult to match.
