Honda CB350RS Expert Review

The CB350RS takes a noticeably different approach from the H'ness CB350 while retaining the same basic platform. The dual-tone paint scheme, blacked-out treatment and redesigned tail section give it a more youthful look. Fit and finish are of a high level, although the absence of Bluetooth connectivity and the Type-C USB charger found on the H'ness DLX Pro makes the feature list feel less generous for the higher price.

The ergonomics have been changed to create a slightly more forward-biased riding position. The foot pegs are placed farther back and slightly higher than on the H'ness, while the wider handlebar and scooped seat make the motorcycle feel more connected to the rider. The seat is firm and supportive, with plenty of room for the rider, and it remains comfortable over long hours in the saddle. 

The 348.36cc single-cylinder engine is unchanged from the H'ness CB350. It produces the same 21.1hp and 30Nm. The engine is refined even at higher speeds, and the slick 5-speed gearbox and slip-and-assist clutch make it easy to keep the motor in its powerband. The raspy exhaust note also adds to the riding experience.

The CB350RS uses the same frame and suspension setup as the H'ness, with the main change being the 17-inch rear wheel and block-pattern MRF tyres. Handling is neutral and predictable, and the tyres provide good grip when leaned into corners. The ride feels a little stiffer than some rivals at low speeds, but it stays composed as speeds rise and does a good job of isolating big potholes and poor road surfaces.

The motorcycle gets full-LED lighting, a compact analogue-digital instrument cluster and switchable traction control. The traction control system may seem unnecessary on a 21.1hp motorcycle, but it can help prevent unwanted wheelspin on slippery surfaces. Braking performance is strong, and the ABS is well calibrated and does not intrude unless necessary.

The CB350RS feels like a more involving and better-looking interpretation of the H'ness CB350 platform. Its design, sporty yet comfortable riding position and engaging riding experience make it a very well-rounded package. The limited BigWing sales and service network remains a concern, but if you are considering a 350cc Honda, the CB350RS stands out as the stronger choice.
