Yamaha Taiwan has unveiled the Cygnus XR155, a new 155cc scooter that marks the first time the Cygnus series has received an engine larger than 125cc. The XR155 was revealed alongside the refreshed 125cc Cygnus X at a launch event held earlier this month, featuring a completely redesigned exterior while maintaining the series’ characteristic flat-floor design.

Yamaha Cygnus XR155 details
Powered by R15-derived 155cc engine
The Cygnus XR155 is powered by the 155cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, VVA-equipped engine we’re familiar with from the Aerox 155. While Yamaha Taiwan hasn’t published exact output figures yet, the same unit on the Aerox produces 15hp at 8,000rpm and 13.9Nm at 6,500rpm.
In terms of styling, the XR155 features a front apron with a triple-lens LED headlight design. The integration of the headlight into the sculpted front end draws inspiration from the Yamaha XMAX sold overseas. Interestingly, this headlight also features variable colour temperature, switching between white and warm white depending on ambient conditions.
Another highlight is the flat floorboard – unlike the step-through layout on the Aerox 155 – paired with 12-inch wheels at both ends. This makes the scooter more in line with models typically sold in India, such as the new Ntorq 150. The layout is one that Indian consumers are more familiar with, and if launched here, the XR155 might find wider acceptance than the Aerox, which has carved out a more niche, sporty scooter identity.
Yamaha Cygnus XR155 availability
Yamaha Cygnus XR155 was first introduced in Taiwan
For now, the XR155 is only available in Taiwan, and Yamaha has not confirmed whether it will be introduced in other markets, including India. If launched here, the Cygnus XR155 would rival the TVS Ntorq 150 and could slot neatly between the RayZR 125 (originally introduced in India under the Cygnus name) and the Aerox 155 in Yamaha’s scooter portfolio.
