Yamaha has just entered the 125cc scooter segment in India with the Fascino 125 Fi. Prices for the BS6-compliant scooter start at Rs 66,430. The scooter is available in four variants - STD Drum Brake (Rs 66,430), STD Disc Brake (Rs 68,930), DLX Drum Brake (Rs 67,430) and DLX Disc Brake (Rs 69,930).

As its name suggests, this scooter is a higher-capacity version of the Fascino 110 which will be on sale until the mandatory BS6 norms come into effect. That said, the 125 has undergone some design changes. While the front is quite similar to the older model, the beaky rear-end is quite unique. The scooter also has a new tail-light that’s much larger than the one on the lower capacity Fascino. The 125cc Fascino also gets a wider rear tyre (now 110mm) than its predecessor.

The larger fuel-injected 125cc engine has also brought about a considerable bump in power. The Fascino 125 makes 8.2hp and 9.7Nm of torque in comparison to the BS4 113cc Fascino, which made 7.2hp and 8.1Nm. Interestingly, Yamaha claims that the new 125cc engine is 16 percent more efficient than the 113cc engine, with a fuel-efficiency figure of 58kpl.

Another mechanical update is the addition of ‘quiet engine start’, which we believe is similar to Honda’s silent start system that made its debut on the BS6 Activa 125. Yamaha has also added the stop-start feature to the new Fascino 125.

In terms of pricing, the Yamaha Fascino manages to undercut the Honda Activa BS6 that has a price that ranges from Rs 67,490 to Rs 74,490.
