TVS RTS X production-spec model design patented

TVS has patented the design of the production-spec RTS X supermoto, after showing the concept at the Auto Expo earlier in the year. The RTS X is one of multiple future TVS models that will be powered by the new RTX-D4 engine, which was shown at MotoSoul last year.

  1. TVS RTS X will be powered by new 299cc RTX-D4 engine
  2. Its exhaust is located under the seat, below the tail-light
  3. It will be a very niche offering with no direct competitors

TVS RTS X design patented ahead of launch

RTS X will be the first supermoto in the 300cc segment in India

While the patent image and the concept are almost indistinguishable, there are a few small things that give away that the patent image is of the production-spec TVS RTS X. While the concept shown at the Auto Expo had fancy remote reservoirs for the brake and clutch master cylinders, the design patent replaces those with a square metal unit for the front brake master cylinder. Another small giveaway is that we can now see a mirror mount for the left-hand side.

Aside from that, there are virtually no distinguishing features between the concept and the design patent, which probably hints that, just like the first-gen Husqvarna bikes, the production-spec RTS X supermoto will be very similar to the concept in terms of its form factor.

One unique thing about the TVS RTS X is the placement of the exhaust. While there’s no discernible exhaust end can or muffler, it is actually located underneath the seat, just below the tail-light.

This patent filing points to the fact that the RTS X supermoto is inching closer to launch, and we could possibly even see it in showrooms before the end of this year. There will be no real rivals to the TVS RTS X, and the only other supermoto in the sub-500cc space will be the KTM 390 SMC R, which is also slated to launch around the middle of this year.
