The Honda Activa is and has been the market leader in the 110cc scooter segment. Many manufacturers have tried taking on the Activa but haven’t even got close when it comes to sales figures (average of about 2.8 lakh units per month). Coming in second consistently, however, is the TVS Jupiter while averaging around 60,000 units per month. Now, TVS is trying to bridge this gap with the introduction of its new feature-filled Jupiter variant, the Grande.

Note: We are comparing the standard model of the Jupiter Grande and the Activa 5G DLX because they are the closest in terms of pricing. If you wish to get the front disc brake and machined alloys seen on the Grande in the image, you will have to opt for the variant that costs around Rs 4,000 more.

Feature talk

While the Grande’s styling remains similar to the standard Jupiter, it features a new LED headlight and digi-analogue instrument console. It also gets a new quilted seat cover along with beige-coloured inner panels. The top-spec Jupiter variant also features an adjustable monoshock, but the telescopic fork is similar to the standard scooter’s. The Grande is also offered in a new colour scheme – Starlight Blue.

When it comes to the fifth-gen Activa, Honda has added a DLX variant. This trim comes with a digi-analogue instrument cluster that gets Eco and service-due indicator lights. Both variants (STD and DLX) of the Activa 5G have an all-LED headlamp and chrome styling inserts. Two new colour schemes – Dazzle Yellow Metallic and Pearl Spartan Red – have been added. The Activa’s underseat storage is slightly larger at 18 litres compared to the 17 litres of the TVS Jupiter. USB charging sockets are standard on both scooters.

A linked braking system is also part of standard equipment both scooters. It is called 'CBS' on the Honda and 'SBS' on the TVS.
