Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx launched in India at Rs 18.75 lakh

Triumph has launched its new Tiger Explorer in India at Rs 18.75 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The British company offers its full-size adventure bike in multiple road and off-road biased versions internationally, but has launched the bike in just one trim in India to begin with. The XCx is the off-road focussed version that comes with spoked wheels, spanning 19-inches at the front and 17-inches at the back. More variations are expected to launch in the coming months.

The new Tiger Explorer broke cover last year overseas and it received more of a comprehensive update rather than an all-new, ground up model. The bike now runs an updated 1,215cc triple-cylinder engine that generates 139hp and 123Nm of torque. Like its rival, the BMW R1200GS, the Tiger Explorer uses shaft drive for low maintenance and a smooth delivery of power to the rear wheel. New for this model, semi-active suspension is available on the XRx, XRt, XCx, and the XCa models and braking is taken care of by new radially mounted Brembo monoblock calipers.

The Triumph Tiger Explorer’s design remains instantly recognisable, but features more sculpted lines across the bodywork. The rider gets a new instrument cluster with a large analogue rev-counter that flanks an LCD screen. Further convenience comes in the form of an electrically adjustable windscreen. Ride-by-wire brings multiple riding modes, and going by our experience with previous Triumph motorcycles with the technology, it's safe to expect crisp and smooth throttle response. It gets IMU-aided traction control (a first for Triumph), as well as cornering ABS and multi-mode adjustability for the ABS. Further adding to the list are cruise control, heated grips and self-cancelling indicators.

At Rs 18.75 lakh, the Tiger Explorer takes on the Rs 18.05 lakh Ducati Multistrada Enduro and the BMW R1200 GSA which ranges from Rs 17.8-21.8 lakh. Triumph will offer a range of over 50 accessories, including multiple luggage options, crash protection and higher/lower seat visual upgrades. Look out for a full review soon.
