TVS has showcased a new scooter with a top speed in excess of 120kph and a power output of over 20hp! Excited? Sadly, you can’t buy this scooter. The TVS Ntorq SXR is the Hosur-based manufacturer’s latest machine to compete in scooter rallies across the country and it will replace the previous, TVS SXR 160.

The new SXR is based on the TVS Ntorq 125, but the rally-spec scooter has undergone extensive modifications to tackle rough terrain. TVS hasn’t divulged the displacement of the Ntorq SXR, but we are sure that the engine has been bored over to increase its displacement as it competes in the scooter category (up to 210cc). TVS says that the Ntorq SXR delivers 20hp, which is more than double the output of the stock Ntorq 125 (9.4hp). In comparison, the TVS SXR 160 was powered by a modified 150cc engine (based on the TVS Wego) and produced a claimed 18hp. TVS mentions that the intake and exhaust system on the Ntorq SXR has been tuned for better performance along with reworked ignition system. However, the company hasn’t divulged the detailed modifications made to the engine and there isn't complete clarity on how it has achieved this enormous jump in power.

The stock scooter weighs 116kg and we are sure the Ntorq SXR will be significantly lighter and an even more exciting scooter to ride (the SXR 160 weighed 90kg and used metal body panels). The Ntorq SXR runs on knobby tyres which are wrapped around 12-inch pressed steel wheels as they are lighter than the alloy wheels as seen on the standard scooter. The front mudguard has also been raised and suspension travel and ground clearance will almost certainly have been increased as well.

Commenting on the scooter’s debut, B Selvaraj, Team Manager, TVS Racing said, “The TVS SXR 160 has always been a formidable machine in the scooter racing arena. With the debut of Ntorq SXR, we are confident to take the performance up by several notches. We have tested the scooter for performance and reliability and I am confident it will set new benchmarks in the scooter class. The TVS Racing scooter team holds a strong winning record and the Ntorq SXR will build on this success story.”

The TVS Ntorq SXR made its debut at the fourth round of Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) on May 25 in Nashik. The scooter was ridden by three-time national champion, Asif Ali and his team-mate Shamim Khan.
