Ola Electric has announced new additional variants to both the S1 and S1 Air electric scooter range. The Ola S1 sits above the S1 Air in the company's product pyramid and we shall begin by explaining the new S1 range.

    1. S1 range gets new 2kWh battery variant
    2. S1 Air available with 2kWh, 3kWh and 4kWh battery pack variants
    3. Ola also teased 5 upcoming electric motorcycles

    New Ola S1 range explained

At the announcement, Ola Electric's CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said the company has been receiving requests to launch an Ola S1 with a smaller capacity battery for those whose usage is barely 25-30km in a day. This is why the company has introduced the Ola S1 with a 2kWh battery pack that offers a range of 91km as per the Indian Driving Cycle or IDC. Also, while this new entry-level S1 has the same 8.5kW motor as other S1s, its top speed is the lowest at 90kph.

Moving on to the price, on account of the smaller 2kWh battery, this S1 is priced at Rs 99,999. Shelling out an additional Rs 10,000 will get you the top-spec S1 that has a 3kWh battery, an IDC range of 141km and a top speed of 95kph.

The range-topping Ola S1 Pro gets the biggest battery of the lot at 4kWh and that translates to a range of 181km (IDC) while its top speed is 116kph. But what will come as a cherry on top of the S1 Pro cake is its price drop. The scooter now costs Rs 1.30 lakh, which makes it Rs 10,000 cheaper than the previous scooters.

    Ola S1 Air range explained

The Ola S1 Air range has received a major rejig. At the time of the announcement of the S1 Air, the scooter had a 2.5kWh battery and a range of 101km. However, the new Ola S1 Air range now begins with a 2kWh battery followed by 3kWh and 4kWh variants.

The company also announced that customers who had booked the original Ola S1 Air with a 2.5kWh battery would receive a free upgrade to the 3kWh battery variant.

A deep dive into the S1 Air's portfolio reveals that the 2kWh battery variant has an IDC range of 85km. The 3kWh variant has a higher IDC range of 125km while the 4kWh version, as expected, has the highest range at 165km (IDC). All scooters have the same 4.5kW motor and identical top speeds of 85kph. Prices start at Rs 84,999, with the mid variant priced at Rs 99,999 and the top variant at Rs 1.10 lakh.

    Upcoming Ola electric motorcycles teased

Near the end of the presentation, the company also teased five upcoming electric motorcycles. While details remain under wraps, judging by the teaser, it seems like the Ola e-bikes will range from sporty-looking machines to those that are more utilitarian in appearance, and even what seems to be a neo-retro model. There is no word yet on which ones will make it to production or the battery/motor capacities and the expected launch timelines.

All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Bengaluru.
