The next-generation KTM 390 Adventure has been spotted for the first time while out on test and, just like the current bike, will use the latest 390 Duke’s engine and main frame.

    1. New 398cc engine, main frame from 2024 Duke
    2. Will get spoked wheels, at least as an option
    3. Styling is very new-age KTM

The next-gen 390 Adventure’s styling is much more reminiscent of a hardcore rally bike than a road-biased tourer. Elements like the long plastic beak up front, the metal-reinforced knuckle guards, a beefy metal bash plate and a tall single-piece seat all contribute to that effect. What will be quite useful, especially in Indian weather, is that slit at the top of the windscreen which will help direct some cool air towards the rider, while protecting him/her from the elements.

As we have seen with most new KTM models, the headlight design seems to be very angular and insect-like, with two DRLs flanking the centrally mounted headlight bulbs, which are both LED units. The tank appears to be quite large, although it remains to be seen if the capacity has increased on the 390 Adventure from the 15-litre unit on the new Dukes. The seat has gone from being a split seat unit to a single-piece one, with large grab rails present on either side of the pillion perch.

Tyres on this particular test mule seem to be the same as the current bike – dual-purpose Metzeler Tourance rubber. Braking hardware, however, has seen a change with the front brake caliper now being an axially mounted unit. The disc is mounted on the right side in stark contrast to the current model.

On the current 390 Adventure, the engine and gearing is identical to the Duke it borrowed the engine from, so it remains to be seen if this new model has any changes in this department. On the 390 Duke, the 398cc mill is rated for 46hp and 39Nm.

The current 390 Adventure is offered in four variants, with prices ranging from Rs 2.81 lakh-3.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new 390 Duke commanded a small premium over the outgoing model, when it was launched, and we expect the next-gen 390 Adventure to be go down a similar as well. The KTM 390 Adventure rivals the very capable and now thoroughly modern Royal Enfield Himalayan (Rs 2.85 lakh-2.98 lakh) and the BMW G 310 GS (Rs 3.30 lakh).
