Suzuki India has released a teaser of its upcoming scooter that's targeted at the youth. It is likely to be a youthful, sporty version of the Suzuki Access 125 and Burgman Street 125.

    New Suzuki scooter: design

The teaser reveals a few details about the scooter, like its sporty styling elements. The front apron, for instance, has prominent crease lines and a centrally mounted LED headlight with an integrated DRL. The headlight is in a similar position as the TVS Ntorq 125. The turn indicators are placed on the handlebar cowl, and these appear to be halogen bulb units. A small windscreen sits above this cowl.

The tail section appears to be as sporty as the front end, with a split triangular LED tail-light. Suzuki says that the design is 'inspired by motorcycles' and we are waiting to see what the new scooter looks like.

It will also get a dual-tone paint scheme and it seems like Suzuki has chosen bold new colours to appeal to the youth.

    New Suzuki scooter: chassis

We expect the new Suzuki scooter to sit on the same platform as the Access 125 and Burgman Street 125. This is a proven platform and we’ve found it to offer a good balance between ride and handling. That said, the 12-inch front and 10-inch rear wheel set-up looks odd, especially in the Burgman due to its wide bodywork. Whether Suzuki makes significant engineering changes to incorporate a 12-inch rear wheel, in keeping with the sporty intent of the scooter, or sticks to a 10-inch rear wheel remains to be seen.

New Suzuki scooter: engine and features

The new scooter is expected to be powered by Access' tried and tested 124cc, single-cylinder engine – which makes 8.7hp at 6,750rpm and 10Nm at 5,500rpm – and we like this strong and efficient unit. However, keeping the sporty nature of the upcoming scooter in mind, Suzuki may extract slightly more power from this engine. Especially since its direct rival, the TVS Ntorq 125 Race XP, makes over 10hp.

In terms of features, the new scooter gets an all-digital dash with Bluetooth connectivity, the same as on the Access and Burgman.

    Launch date

The new Suzuki scooter will be launched on November 18. Stay tuned to know more.
