New Hero-Harley 440 model confirmed for July-September launch

Hero MotoCorp has confirmed it will add a new model to the Harley-Davidson line-up in India, based on the 440 platform, within the ongoing July-September quarter. The new bike will join the Harley-Davidson X440 in the brand’s co-developed portfolio.

  1. Harley-Davidson 440 platform to gain a new model; launch in the September quarter.
  2. Current 440 models sold just 1,854 units in the April-June 2025 period.
  3. Hero is also readying two new 125cc bikes ahead of the festive season to take on Honda.

New Harley 440 model coming soon

This will be third product from the Harley-Hero collaboration

The announcement was made during Hero MotoCorp’s investor call on Thursday, August 7. The upcoming model will be the third product from the Harley-Hero collaboration, which began in 2020 and aims to co-develop and manufacture premium motorcycles for India and select global markets.

Sales struggle in premium segment

Despite their premium positioning, the X440 and Mavrick 440 have struggled to find buyers. Combined sales in the financial year that ended on March 31, 2025, were 13,963 units, and volumes in the April-June 2025 period plunged 63 percent year on year to 1,854 units. Owing to weak sales, Hero recently discontinued the Mavrick 440 just 18 months after its launch. Competition in the 350-500cc segment remains intense, with rivals like Royal Enfield’s Guerrilla, Bajaj’s Dominar and KTM’s Duke dominating the space.

Hero’s broader strategy

While Hero MotoCorp remains strong in the 100-110cc commuter category, it is pivoting towards the growing premium motorcycle segment and the 125cc class. In addition to the new Harley 440 model, the company will launch two new 125cc motorcycles before the festive season to strengthen its position against Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India.
