According to reports, India Kawasaki Motor (IKM) plans to open its second exclusive showroom in Delhi on January 15. The upcoming showroom will mark IKM’s exclusive footprint in North India while its first, Pune-based showroom continues to cater to demand in the western region.

IKM’s recent developments highlight the Japanese motorcycle maker’s aggressive moves to build the brand and expand its portfolio for this emerging market. The company had launched two superbikes – the four-cylinder, 998cc Ninja ZX-10R and the four-cylinder, 1441cc ZX-14R – in September last year, followed by the launch of two other high-performance bikes, namely the Z1000 and the Ninja 1000, both using the four-cylinder, 1043cc engines in December 2013.

Kawasaki in India now has a portfolio of six bikes, two of which (Ninja 300 and 650) are assembled locally and are also retailed from Bajaj Auto’s probiking showrooms. IKM officials had earlier clarified that a premium bike model in India should justify sales of around 150-200 units per annum to be considered for local assembly or CKD-operations.

Going forward, Kawasaki is expected to bring the four-cylinder, 806cc Z800 model soon and two more premium models by mid-2014.
