Indian Motorcycle recall affects only one unit in India

Indian Motorcycle has issued a global recall for more than 3,000 bikes built in 2018 due to an electrical issue that causes the bikes to start themselves without user input. Only one unit of these 3,000 motorcycles made its way to India and the company has arranged with its dealer principal to rectify the issue.

From the company’s line-up, three Cruiser and eight Bagger models have been affected. Indian has stated that electrical components within the right-hand switchgear may develop corrosion over time. This could result in an electrical short in the switchgear and, if the key fob is stored on or near the motorcycle and if all other safety interlocks are met, the vehicle could start while unattended.

The issue’s rectification requires replacing the right-hand switchgear with an updated unit that eliminates the potential for corrosion. This will be carried out free of cost by the dealer.
