Suzuki Motorcycles India (SMIPL) has set a target of selling one lakh units of the 155cc Gixxer siblings within the first 12 months of the models' launch. Suzuki has already sold 45,000 units of the standard Gixxer - it won the 'Autocar 2015 Bike of the Year' award - in the first six months, prompting the company to launch its fully-faired sibling the Gixxer SF.

The Gixxer SF gets the same engine, chassis, suspension and features as the regular Gixxer, but gets the addition of Suzuki’s Eco Performance (SEP) technology which, the company claims, improves fuel efficiency and performance by reducing mechanical losses.

SMIPL executive vice-president Atul Gupta said that he was optimistic that the Gixxer SF would help strengthen the company’s position in the market. He also said that Suzuki was “looking at expanding its presence and appeal among young customers, with products that address their desire for style, performance and mileage”.

In March this year, Suzuki Motorcycle India sold 32,431 units, up six percent (March 2014: 30,594 units). However, as per the sales data from SIAM, in the April 2014-February 2015 period, the company sold 313,704 units, down 4.3 percent over the previous fiscal year.
