Piaggio dealers have begun receiving the new Vespa Urban Club 125. The new scooter is priced at Rs 72,190 (ex-showroom, Pune), according to dealers, and is now one of the most affordable Vespas in India, alongside the Notte 125. The on-road cost for the Urban Club 125 in Pune, meanwhile, is pegged at Rs 88,500. The ex-showroom price in Delhi is said to be slightly higher, at Rs 73,733. Dealers have also told us they are about to begin deliveries.

It’s not only the price that the Urban Club and the Notte share, they are identical under their different colours. The Notte, which has been around since last year, is only available in matte black, while the Urban Club can be had in red, yellow, grey and light blue. The new Vespa variant also ditches a lot of its chrome for blacked-out bits.

The scooters are also mechanically identical – they use drum brakes with 10-inch wheels at both ends and come equipped with CBS as standard. It is also safe to assume that the powertrain on the Urban Club will be the same as the one on the Notte, which means it will most certainly employ the same 125cc, air-cooled engine that produces 9.6hp and 9.9Nm of torque.

While the new Urban Club and Notte are the most affordable Vespa offerings, they have very basic levels of kit when compared to similarly priced scooters in India. However, the new-generation of Vespa models attract buyers with their iconic style and premium image, as the value-for-money factor isn’t as much of a concern for their customers.
