Yamaha has unveiled the 2026 NMax 155 Tech Max for European markets, introducing a new electronically controlled transmission system that brings some motorcycle-like gear functionality. This version of the scooter, featuring the YECVT (Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission), was first introduced earlier this year in Southeast Asian markets such as the Philippines.

Gets electronic CVT with downshift button.

The standout feature of the 2026 NMax 155 is Yamaha's new Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission (YECVT) system, which replaces the conventional CVT setup. Unlike traditional scooter transmissions, the YECVT electronically adjusts pulley positions, enabling more precise gear ratio control.

The system offers two riding modes – Sport and Town – which alter gear ratios to change acceleration characteristics. The scooter also features a downshift button on the left switchgear, allowing riders to manually reduce the gear ratio for quicker acceleration or stronger engine braking, similar to how one would on a motorcycle.

Powering the NMax 155 is the familiar 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), shared with the Yamaha R15 and MT-15. On the NMax, it produces 15.1hp at 8,000rpm and 14Nm at 6,500rpm.

The scooter comes equipped with a 4.2-inch colour TFT display integrated with Garmin navigation for turn-by-turn directions. It also supports smartphone connectivity for call and SMS alerts, music control, and ride data. A smaller secondary LCD display shows essential information such as speed and fuel level.

The Yamaha NMax 155 Tech Max debuted in the Philippines in March 2025, priced at 175,900 PHP (approximately Rs 2.63 lakh). Pricing for the European market, where it has just been introduced, is yet to be announced.

Yamaha India has an event scheduled for November 11, where multiple products are expected to be unveiled. While rumours suggest that the NMax 155 could be among them, the manufacturer has not yet confirmed any plans to launch it in India.
