Triumph has launched the 2021 Speed Twin in India at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

2021 Triumph Speed Twin: engine and gearbox

For 2021, the 1,200cc, parallel-twin engine gets high-compression pistons, revised ports and cam profiles. There's a lighter crankshaft, as well as a new alternator that is said to reduce inertia by 17 percent. Peak power has gone up by 3hp, to 100hp at 7,250rpm, while peak torque remains the same at 112Nm.

The company has also made changes that are said to improve the low- and mid-range grunt, for better rideability. This engine continues to be paired to a 6-speed gearbox. Other changes come in the form of minor revisions to the exhaust system. However, Triumph promises a similar, throaty note as on the BS4 Speed Twin.

2021 Triumph Speed Twin: suspension and brakes

When compared to the older model, the steering rake angle is reduced by half a degree while the trail has also gone down by 2mm, to 91.5mm. This should result in slightly sharper steering. The fork, meanwhile, has been swapped out for a fatter, 43mm USD cartridge unit by Marzocchi.

The bike also sits on new 12-spoke cast-aluminium wheels at both ends, shod with grippier, Metzeler Racetec RR tyres. The axially-mounted Brembo brakes have also been ditched and in its place come new radially-mounted Brembo M50 Monobloc calipers, with 320mm discs at the front.

2021 Triumph Speed Twin: electronics

In terms of electronics, it gets three ride modes – Rain, Road and Sport, which have been updated for 2021. The modes get dedicated throttle control settings and new throttle maps.

However, an IMU-based system is still missing, and Triumph says it has deliberately done so to keep costs in check.
