The Ola Roadster X+ is positioned as one of the more performance-focused bikes in the brand’s line-up. The bike gets three riding modes, including Eco, Normal and Sport. In Eco mode, it is best suited to back roads and stop-go traffic, with an indicated top speed of 42kph. Normal mode feels more natural for everyday use, with an indicated top speed of around 80kph. Sport mode is the quickest and feels genuinely strong when the battery’s state of charge is high.

Ola Roadster X+ 4.5kWh Real World Riding Range

We tested the riding range in Normal mode and achieved a decent 130km. When we began our test, the battery was fully charged and displayed a riding range of 183km. With 90 percent battery, the displayed range was 166km. As we got towards the end with 30 percent battery, the range displayed was 59km. The bike automatically switched to Eco mode at 15 percent charge and shut down with the screen displaying 1 percent, displaying a battery low warning. Here is how many kilometres of riding we were able to complete as the battery percentage dropped:

While the real-world range of 130km is respectable, home charging times are on the longer side and it takes approximately 8 hours to completely charge the 4.5kWh battery. The home charger sits neatly under the seat and can be removed to free up 3.7 litres of under-seat storage. Fast charging is available at certain locations but we found that these chargers are sometimes not operational.

Autocar India’s range testing

Before our real-world range test, the battery of our two-wheeler on test is fully charged, and we maintain tyre pressures as recommended by the manufacturer. The two-wheeler is then ridden in the city and highway (for electric two-wheelers that are capable of doing so), and we maintain certain average speeds while following the speed limit. The vehicle is then run until the battery is completely drained and it shuts down or does not go ahead even if the screen is on.

Delhi’s pollution crisis justifies strong mandates like this
Buyers will find ways around it, like registering in other states
It's too harsh! Incentivising EV purchases is a better strategy
The mandate should extend to four-wheelers too
