We are planning to buy a petrol saloon for around Rs 10 lakh. We have shortlisted the Honda City and the Volkswagen Vento. The Vento trumps the City in terms of ride quality, whereas the City wins because it’s a tried-and-tested car, and it returns better mileage. Which car should we choose? We’ll be driving it around 800km a month.

AAA You have summed up both cars correctly. However, we feel overall the City is a better choice because not only is it a proven product, but is nicer to drive too thanks to its brilliant engine and driver-friendly character. The Vento feels more solid but it is unlikely to offer lower maintenance and fuel efficiency than the City.
