The 2026 Tiago EV continues with the same 320V electrical architecture, 24kWh battery pack and electric motor as before. However, Tata has focused on refining the underlying software and battery management systems. The updates include revised accelerator mapping for smoother power delivery, software enhancements aimed at improving energy efficiency, dual-cell balancing during both charging and driving, dynamic state-of-charge (SoC) calibration, and more accurate range prediction algorithms.

Tata also claims to have improved the chemistry of its LFP battery cells and optimised the battery management software. According to the company, these changes have resulted in significantly faster charging performance, reducing charging times by as much as 40 percent compared to the outgoing model.
2026 Tata Tiago Charging times explained
To verify these claims, we connected the Tiago EV to a 120kW DC fast charger and monitored its charging performance. The results closely mirrored Tata's stated figures. The 24kWh battery charged from 20 percent to 80 percent SoC in exactly 30 minutes, marking a substantial improvement over the previous version. During this charging session, the battery achieved an average charging speed of 24kW, while peak charging speeds touched 32kW, based on the charger display.
As is common with most EVs, charging speeds were highest in the middle portion of the battery's charge curve before tapering off significantly at higher states of charge. This is done to protect battery health and manage heat generation. In the Tiago EV's case, charging slowed considerably beyond 90 percent, with the final stretch proving particularly gradual. To put this into perspective, charging from 93 percent SoC to a full 100 percent required an additional 21 minutes.

The improvement becomes even more evident when compared with the outgoing Tiago EV Long Range. The previous model managed an average charging speed of around 15kW and peaked at approximately 19kW. Its battery typically required around 45 minutes to charge from 20 percent to 80 percent SoC. In comparison, the updated model not only reaches higher peak charging rates but also sustains stronger charging performance throughout the charging cycle.
In practical terms, these enhancements make the 2026 Tiago EV noticeably more convenient to live with, particularly for those who frequently undertake intercity journeys.
Additionally, besides DC fast charging, Tata claims that the 24kWh Tiago EV’s battery can charge from 10-100 percent in approximately 9 hours using a 3.3kW wallbox AC charger (or via a regular 15A plug point), and if you opt for the 7.2kW wallbox AC charger, the charging time reduces to just 3.5 hours.
