I currently own a Grandi10 Sportz 2015 Model. My daily usage is mostly in the city from Home to office, averaging around 750-800 kms/month. I am planning to upgrade my vehicle to an SUV. My budget is around 9 lakhs. Please suggest.

I want an SUV-styled CNG car and am confused between the Nexon CNG and Exter CNG. I have taken a test drive of both. The Exter felt easy to drive, had smooth gear shifts, was silent, and I loved its driveability. The Nexon's gear shift felt a bit notchy and not as easy for city driving, but I loved its suspension, comfort, and looks. I'm buying the car for high-kilometre usage. I have an Aura CNG, which I've driven for 2 lakh km and it is still in A1 condition. I'm expecting the Exter CNG to be the same. I don't have much experience with the Nexon. I have concerns about the Nexon's long-term reliability for 3 lakh km over the next 5 to 6 years, as well as the service experience since there is only one dealership and service centre in my city, Bareilly, which has a population of over 13 lakh. My priorities are comfort, easy maintenance, long-term reliability, and no unexpected maintenance.Can the new Nexon deliver all this? Or should I stick to my safe option, the Exter?

Stick with the Exter CNG, you liked its easy drive, light clutch and smooth shifts - that matters every single day in traffic. You also already have a good experience with Hyundai’s CNG with your Aura and so you can expect much the same experience with the Hyundai and keeping it healthy to 3 lakh km is realistic without surprises. The Nexon CNG is tempting for comfort and looks and yes the ride is better too, but Tata Motor's dealer network quality varies a lot from city to city and with your plan of keeping it for quite a few years and clocking 3 lakh kms you will need a good proven dealer support which may not be the case with the Tata dealer in your area. Go with the Nexon only if you are absolutely confident of the dealer reputation, else stick with the Exter.

I want to buy a new car for my parents. My father used to drive, but he no longer does so due to age and health-related issues. I live in a Tier-2 city and previously owned a 2010 Wagon R 1.0. Although it had covered only 40,000 km, it is now showing signs of ageing, such as rusting and high maintenance costs. I am looking for a hassle-free new car, and since it will mostly remain parked in the garage, it won't see much usage. Budget is under 8 lakh.

Buy the Maruti Wagon R. It fits under Rs. 8 lakh, is easy for elderly parents to get in and out of, and keeps running costs and headaches very low. Pick the Tata Nexon EV for your use. It will comfortably cover your 140km daily run on a single charge, with a real 250-300 km range, and its high ground clearance and tough suspension handle broken village roads without scraping. Tata’s service reach and roadside help are the best among mass EVs here, so support in smaller towns is easier. It is not the quickest to fast charge, and the ride can feel a bit busy on sharp ruts, but it takes abuse well.On a tighter budget, the Tata Punch EV also works for 140 km days if you charge at home every night.

A city fuel efficiency of 13-15kpl with the air conditioning on is slightly on the lower side for a Wagon R 1.0, but it isn't necessarily a cause for concern, especially if you're driving in Lucknow's city traffic with frequent stops and the AC running throughout your journey.Your 20km daily commute should be enough for the engine to reach its normal operating temperature, but fuel efficiency can still vary depending on traffic conditions, idling time and driving style. We'd recommend checking that your tyre pressures are maintained at the manufacturer's recommended levels, avoiding hard acceleration and excessive idling, and using good-quality fuel from reputed fuel stations.

Go for the Toyota Innova HyCross. For a family, it simply works better as the cabin is roomier, the third row is actually usable for adults, the ride is smoother, and the hybrid saves a lot of fuel in city traffic where most family cars spend their time. Long trips feel easier too, and Toyota’s hassle-free ownership and resale help over years.Pick the Hyundai Alcazar only if you’re on a tighter budget or you want a slightly smaller, easier-to-park 3-row. It’s great for four or five with the third row used occasionally, and the diesel suits heavy highway use. But the last row and boot are tighter, and it doesn’t feel as plush or relaxed on bad roads.One honest trade-off with the Innova HyCross is the higher price and possible waiting period, and the boot with all three rows up isn’t huge. If that stretch and wait are okay, it’s the better family car overall.

With a daily running of just 10-15km, there's little benefit in stretching to a strong hybrid, and since you've shortlisted the non-hybrid Hyryder, the Seltos is the more complete package. It offers a more premium cabin, better performance from its naturally aspirated petrol engine, a stronger feature list and an overall more polished driving experience.The Toyota Hyryder still has its strengths. Toyota's reputation for reliability and aftersales support is second to none, and if long-term peace of mind is your top priority, it remains a very sensible choice. However, the non-hybrid petrol doesn't offer a significant efficiency advantage over the Seltos, so you miss out on the biggest reason to buy a Hyryder in the first place.Given your low running, we'd simply choose the SUV that you enjoy driving and living with every day.
