I want to buy a hybrid car with a sunroof, and my budget is Rs. 8-10 lakh. Which would be the best option within this budget?

At Rs 8-10 lakh, there are no hybrid cars available in India. The only options in this price range are mild hybrids, which offer a small efficiency boost but do not provide the fuel savings or electric-only driving of a proper strong hybrid system. If you are specifically looking for a hybrid with a sunroof, you will need to increase your budget to around Rs 20 lakh or more, where cars like the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid, Grand Vitara Hybrid and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid become available. These are proper strong hybrids and are among the most efficient cars in India today.

If your budget is fixed at Rs 8-10 lakh, the best approach is to focus on a good mild hybrid car with a sunroof, such as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx or Brezza. If space is not the highest priority, get the Fronx, as it is better value for money, giving you more features for your money. The Brezza, however, has more interior space, more powerful engines and a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating, so it could be the better choice.

But then your other requirement - a sunroof - will not be met by either of these, as Maruti only offers this feature in higher variants. So if that is of the highest priority, check out a petrol car like the Hyundai i20, Tata Punch or Kia Sonet. Overall, our recommendation is to go for one of the mild-hybrid Maruti models and forego the sunroof. It's the better decision in the long run.

There are quite a few options that would meet your requirements, so its hard to pinpoint a specific model without knowing a bit more about your requirements and driving conditions. Hi, I am planning to buy my first car and am looking for an automatic car in the Rs 12-16.5 lakh budget. I am 6ft tall, so seating comfort, particularly headroom and under-thigh support, is an important consideration. My monthly running will be around 1,000km, with approximately 70% in Bangalore city traffic and 30% on highways. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI AT would be the one we'd recommend for you. It's got a pleasant 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that works well with the six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It's not a performance-oriented powertrain, in case that's a priority for you, but rather is tuned for comfortable city use and smooth performance. Fuel economy is also good for an automatic. Interestingly, the Brezza offers more headroom than the Grand Vitara and Victoris at the back, making it better suited to your needs. The Brezza ZXI AT gets all the features that you need and is the pick of the contenders.

I’m confused between the Maruti Suzuki Victoris VXi Smart Hybrid Petrol Automatic and the VXi Strong Hybrid. Most of my driving will be in the city, with a monthly running of around 1,000km. There's roughly a Rs 3.50 lakh (on-road) price difference between the Maruti Suzuki Victoris VXI AT and the VXI Strong Hybrid CVT, with the latter being more expensive. With the current price difference, given your limited usage, it'll take you a long time to recover that initial price premium before you benefit from the hybrid's lower running costs. Hence, it makes sense to opt for the petrol-automatic version which is quite smooth and efficient. That said, there are some handsome discounts going on on the latter, which will bring the price gap down a fair bit. So, only if you are getting a good deal, we'd recommend getting the strong hybrid version for its efficient powertrain, and smoother, more responsive power delivery, which makes city drives a breeze.

I am planning to buy the top-end Hyundai Creta Turbo Petrol DCT variant. My daily running is around 50–100km, which adds up to approximately 25,000–30,000km annually. I am looking for a car that offers strong performance and quick acceleration, along with a comprehensive set of comfort and convenience features. The 2027 Hyundai New Creta will be thoroughly updated inside-out, and it'll have more tech and features. If you don't mind waiting, it makes sense to get the 2027 new-gen model. Do note, its powertrain options are likely to be carried forward from the current version. If you can't wait, but still want the performance as well as the latest in terms of tech and features, consider the Kia Seltos turbo-dct instead, which packs in more or less everything the next-gen Creta is likely to offer.

I’m planning to buy a new car, and my annual running is around 40,000km, primarily involving highway drives and ghat sections. I have shortlisted the Kia Seltos Diesel HTX and the upcoming facelifted Toyota Innova Hycross ZX. I’m considering two approaches: either buy the Innova Hycross and keep it for the next 10 years, given its reputation for longevity and the expectation that its engine can last at least 4 lakh kilometres, or buy the Seltos, drive it for around 2 lakh kilometres over 4–5 years, sell it and upgrade to a brand-new Seltos or another car of a similar price and size. On paper, the Innova Hycross Hybrid seems like the better choice, considering its long-term reliability and features such as the Ottoman reclining seats. However, I’m concerned that I might get bored of it after four years or that it may start feeling outdated as newer technologies and features enter the market. This makes the second option appealing, as it would allow me to upgrade to a brand-new car every 4–5 years. Which approach would make more sense in the long run, considering my high annual running and ownership costs?

It seems like you're leaning towards the Kia Seltos Diesel HTX, and we think it is a good choice. The diesel engine feels adequately powered for highway usage and ghat driving, and it is likely to return respectable efficiency too. Moreover, despite being modern with all the latest tech and features, the Seltos will be substantially more affordable than the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid. So unless you need the Innova's extra space, or you frequently travel with six or seven passengers, the Kia Seltos diesel is your best bet.
