I have owned my Skoda Rapid 1.5 TDI DSG for 6.5 years, and it has crossed 1 lakh km. It still runs like a dream and has been extremely reliable, with no major mechanical issues apart from regular servicing. My only concern now is the possibility of expensive repairs as the mileage increases, especially related to the DSG or injectors. Another issue is that the Rapid feels quite bare-bones compared to newer cars. I am considering upgrading to something under Rs. 25 lakh, mainly looking at the Duster 1.3 DCT and Taigun 1.5 TSI. My question is: should I keep the Rapid for a couple more years, or would the Duster/Taigun be a worthwhile upgrade? Or is there anything else under Rs. 25 lakh that would make a good replacement? Please suggest.

Between your shortlisted options, the Renault Duster 1.3 DCT will feel like the more meaningful upgrade. The 1.3 turbo petrol is a strong, characterful engine, and the DCT gearbox is quick and engaging. The Duster also offers a more rugged, SUV-like feel and a better ride over rough roads, which makes it a genuinely different ownership experience from the Rapid. The Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI is a very good car, but it is mechanically similar to what you already have, and the upgrade will not feel as substantial. That said, the Taigun is a proven product that's been around for a few years, whereas the Duster is brand new and yet to prove its mettle over the long term. If you've been happy with Skoda's aftersales performance, Volkswagen is quite similar in that regard. If you want a good but familiar experience, go with the Taigun, but otherwise, it's the Duster we'd recommend.

I am looking for a mid-size SUV in the Rs 15-16 lakh range. I have narrowed my list down to the new Duster 1.3 Turbo Techno+ and the Hyundai Creta 1.5 NA S(O). I really like the Creta's interior, but I am concerned that since Kia has already launched the new-generation Seltos, the new-generation Creta may not be far away. My daily running is approximately 80km, mostly on the highway, with some city driving. Please suggest which would be the better buy.

The Duster 1.3 Turbo Techno+ is the better fit here. The Renault Duster’s ride quality is genuinely excellent, soaking up bad roads and undulations in a way few cars in this price range can. It also feels planted and confidence-inspiring at highway speeds, which makes long daily commutes far less tiring. The 1.3 turbo petrol engine is punchy and well-suited to highway driving, giving you strong overtaking performance when you need it. Moreover, the Techno+ variant represents excellent value in this price range, especially for your needs.The Hyundai Creta 1.5 NA S(O) is a very good car, but the naturally aspirated engine is not as strong on the highway, especially when fully loaded. You're right about the new generation; Kia has already launched the new Seltos, and Hyundai is expected to bring the next-generation Creta to India in early 2027. I live in Hyderabad and am looking for a 5-seater car with a manual transmission and a minimum boot space of 470 litres. I prefer a manual because I feel automatic transmissions are more complex and could be expensive to repair in the future. Another, slightly unusual requirement is that I want a car with a reliable engine and transmission that can last 12-13 years or more, provided it receives timely engine oil changes and regular maintenance. Can anyone suggest some good manual SUV cars with an on-road price below Rs. 20 lakh?

Given your requirements for a large boot, opt for the Honda Elevate. At 458 litres the boot is under your specific measurement but is very well shaped and can easily managed a lot of cargo. Honda are known for their engines and your second requirement of a very reliable engine and gearbox will also be met with the Elevate. If you must have a minimum boot space of 470 litres consider the Renault Duster. At 518 litres the boot is the largest in the mid-size segment and the roof rails are also functional and can hold up to 50kgs so should you need even more space you can opt for a roof box, however check with your local RTO as these are not legal in many instances. If you are not looking for a very peppy drive feel, opt for the smaller 1.0 liter engine which does quite well in everyday traffic and even at steady cruising out on the highway. The engine and gearbox as well as the entire car is built tough and will last you for the 12 odd years you are looking to keeping the car, provided of course all services are done in a timely manner and the car is well looked after.

I used to own a manual Ford EcoSport Trend Petrol model manual which I drove for 7 years. But as the service centre in Guwahati shut down recently, and also due to the lack of readily available spare parts, I was compelled to sell it. Recently, I had booked a Renault Duster Adventure 1.3L DCT and might get the vehicle delivered within a week. I have also taken the test drive and liked the power and comfort. But my concern comes from the fact that the sales figures have gone down from 512 units in July 2026 to zero in August 2026. So will it right to go ahead with the Duster, seeing their sales figures going down? As an alternative, I am looking for the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 turbo Petrol TC. My budget is within Rs. 17.50 lakhs.

Go ahead with the Renault Duster 1.3 DCT. It is a genuinely good product, and the 1.3 turbo petrol paired with the DCT is a strong, enjoyable powertrain. The Duster is also one of the few cars in the segment that genuinely stands out for its ride comfort and driving dynamics, which is exactly what you liked during your test drive.The Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 Turbo Petrol AT is a very good alternative, but it is a different proposition. The 3XO is a modern product with a rich feature list, but it does not offer the same level of driving engagement or ride comfort as the Duster. The Duster is the better driver's car, and if that is what you are looking for, it is the right choice.The only thing to check is Renault's service network in Guwahati. Make sure there is a reliable service centre nearby, as that was the reason you sold your EcoSport in the first place. If Renault's service network is strong in your area, go ahead with the Duster. If not, the 3XO is the safer ownership proposition.

I am planning to buy a sub-compact SUV. My budget is Rs. 13-14 lakh, and my priorities are a smooth automatic transmission and good mileage. I am considering the Brezza ZXi AT, Sonet HXT DCT, and Venue HX6 DCT. I am very confused because the Brezza’s torque-converter automatic offers good fuel efficiency but lacks some features, while the Sonet and Venue offer all the features I need. However, I am concerned that the DCT may be less fuel-efficient and could involve higher maintenance costs. My daily commute is around 30 km, mostly in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. Go for the Hyundai Venue. With your daily 35km commute in Delhi NCR traffic, comfort and low maintenance are key, and the Venue delivers on both. The 1.2 NA petrol is smooth, refined and easy to drive in stop-start conditions, while Hyundai’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment. The HX6T variant also gives you a good balance of features without pushing the budget too far.The Sonet HTK+O is mechanically very similar, but the Venue is a newer model and offers a more spacious cabin.
