The MG Windsor Pro is the best EV to buy under Rs. 20 lakh if you want a genuinely usable family car. It is the only EV in this price range that offers a proper five-seat cabin with good rear-seat space, a large boot and a comfortable ride. That makes it far more practical than smaller EVs like the Tata Nexon EV or Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, which are good cars but do not offer the same level of space or comfort. The Windsor also has a proven track record in India, and MG’s service network is now well established, so reliability and ownership experience are not concerns. The MG car also comes loaded with features like a large touchscreen, leatherette upholstery, panoramic sunroof and much more. As for safety, the Windsor Pro also gets Level 2 ADAS features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and much more. The only real drawback is that the Windsor is not the most exciting car to drive, but as a family EV it is the most complete package in this price bracket. Go for Windsor if your preference is space and features. Consider Curvv if you prefer good driving experience and features. Windsor back seat is spacious and comfortable but ride quality is very bad where as Curvv space is low but rides better. Driving, handling and screen response much better than Windsor. Nexon and Curvv are currently offered for around 3.5 lac discount making it more VFM

I am planning to buy a EV as my primary car for me and my family. I am confused between Tata Punch and Tata Nexon considering my daily running will be approximately between 40-50 km. Please suggest which one should I choose.

Go for the Tata Punch EV. With a daily running of 40-50km, an electric car makes perfect sense, and the Punch EV is the newer of the two and has the latest integrated drivetrain which promises better reliability. The lower range would not make a difference to you given your low daily running. Do note though that rear space is less than the Nexon EV so if you have a family of 5, you would be better off in the Nexon.

Budget EVs can handle highway runs, but you need to plan your trip a bit differently. Most budget EVs like the Tata Punch EV or the MG Windsor have a real-world range of 200-300 km, so on longer journeys you will need to factor in charging stops.If you plan your route around fast chargers and start each leg with a full battery, you can keep your schedule fairly predictable. Charging times are the key variable. A 30-40 minute fast charge is typical, but availability and queue times can add up.In terms of performance, most budget electric cars can cruise at highway speeds comfortably, but you will see range drop if you drive aggressively or use the air conditioning heavily. Overall, a budget EV can do highway trips, but you need to build in charging time and be a bit more organised than you would be with a petrol or diesel car. If you are doing this kind of trip regularly, a diesel or petrol car is still the more convenient option. If it is occasional and you are happy to plan, an EV can work.

For your usage, the Skoda Kylaq is a good upgrade. Your 65 km daily expressway run means you need a car that is stable at speed and comfortable over long distances. The Kylaq delivers that very well. At your budget, you could get a lower-spec automatic, which would make it easy to drive in city traffic, which matters for your twice-a-month urban runs. The automatic gearbox is a torque converter, so its shifts are very smooth and it is very reliable too. The only possible downside is that fuel efficiency is not going to be very high, and given your high daily running, this is something that might bother you. If so, opt for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.2L, which is also good at higher speeds and would be more fuel efficient. The auto box in this case is an AMT, which would not be as smooth, but this would only be a bit of a bother in city traffic and not on steady highway cruising.

I have been using Honda City manual for the last 21 years. Now, I want a car with automatic transmission for city running mostly. My average running is around 1000km a month. Can you suggest whether I should buy Seltos, Creta, Kushaq or Elevate?

Given your usage of around 1,000 km a month, mostly in the city, the priority should be a smooth and reliable automatic transmission, good ride comfort and ease of ownership. The Kia Seltos IVT is the most natural recommendation here. The IVT gearbox is also very smooth, and the Seltos feels more premium and feature-rich than the competition. Alternatively, consider the Honda Elevate. The CVT is exceptionally smooth in stop-start traffic, Honda’s ownership experience is proven, and the car is simple, reliable and easy to live with.The Skoda Kushaq is the driver’s choice, with a more engaging driving experience, but in city running, that doesn't matter much. The Hyundai Creta is a good all-rounder, but it is due for a full model change in 2027, which makes the Seltos and Elevate stronger recommendations at this point.
