I want to buy a car in the Rs. 60 lakh to Rs. 70 lakh range. An SUV seems like the more practical choice, but there aren't many exciting options from BMW or Mercedes-Benz in this budget. Sedans like the BMW 3 Series are available, but I am concerned about their low ground clearance, especially since the roads in my area are not in great condition and waterlogging is a common issue. Toyota appeals because of its reliability, but I don't find the interiors very appealing. As for Skoda and Volkswagen, I am not very confident about their after-sales service. Would the BMW 3 Series still be comfortable and practical to own on bad roads and during waterlogged conditions? Above all, I want complete peace of mind after the purchase.

Within a budget of Rs. 70 lakh, the BMW 3 Series is one of the best choices. However, if ground clearance is a concern, an SUV would be the more practical option. Equivalent SUVs such as the BMW X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC will require stretching the budget by another Rs. 10-15 lakh. Otherwise, the alternatives will have to come from a segment below.

Since comfort is a priority, it would be worth waiting for the upcoming BMW X1 Long Wheelbase, which is set to launch on 21 August. As it will be assembled in India, pricing is expected to remain competitive and within your budget.

The Audi Q3 and Q3 Sportback are also worth considering. They offer a refined petrol engine, smooth performance, and a high-quality cabin. Their only drawback is that they are not the most modern in terms of features. With the new-generation Q3 expected to arrive soon, attractive discounts on the current models are also likely.

However, in most respects, the new Q3 will be the better bet, especially if you drive yourself. It gets a more powerful 2.0-litre engine rather than the BMW's 1.5, it has AWD, and Audi's latest tech. Plus, it's easy to drive and see out of, and Audi has cleverly chosen a smaller rim size for India to ensure that ride quality remains comfortable. Test drive the iX1 too, but overall, the Q3 seems like the better bet for your needs.

The Audi New Q3 might be significantly more expensive than the other options you've listed. However, if you're referring to the outgoing model available at a discounted price, we'd recommend you to certainly consider it. The Audi Q3 has a strong 2.0 TSI engine, and its ride comfort is excellent too. Additionally, the all-wheel drive system makes it an able handler. So if you like to drive, this one is certainly worth considering. You'll also appreciate the cabin quality and seat comfort. And while it has the basics, some features like ventilated seats, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, powered tailgate, etc are missing.The BMW X1 will be a lot more spacious in comparison, however its turbo-petrol engine doesn't match the Audi's performance or responsiveness.

Of the four, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is the one to consider if space is a priority. It is the largest here and will suit frequent family travel best, particularly if you regularly carry rear-seat passengers and luggage. The petrol engine is smooth, though it needs to be worked hard for its best performance. Also, the R-Line’s larger wheels and lower-profile tyres can make the ride feel firm and occasionally crashy over broken roads.The BMW X1 LWB is a very capable city SUV. It has light controls, sharp handling for its size, generous rear-seat space and is superbly priced. However, its 1.5-litre petrol engine is not particularly strong once fully loaded. This BMW car is adequate for normal use, but does not offer the relaxed overtaking performance you may want on regular highway trips, and the interior doesn’t feel premium enough.The Mini Countryman is arguably the most distinctive choice. It feels well built, has a genuinely interesting interior and is enjoyable to drive, but it is not the most natural long-distance companion here. Rear-seat comfort and the overall ride quality are not quite as convincing as the Tayron or X1 for regular road trips.If you like driving and head out of town every few months, we suggest you wait for the new-generation Audi Q3. This Audi car comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and the standard quattro all-wheel-drive system should give it the strongest combination of effortless performance, highway confidence and all-weather capability in this group. The new Q3 is due to launch in India on October 16 and is expected to bring a much more modern, technology-heavy cabin. It is also expected to be the most expensive of the lot, with pricing likely in the Rs 55 lakh to Rs 60 lakh range, ex-showroom. My pick would be the Q3 if you can stretch the budget and are willing to wait. Otherwise, choose the Tayron R-Line if rear-seat space and family-road-trip usability matter most, or the X1 if most of your driving is in the city

I am new to driving and am looking for a sub-4-metre petrol SUV with a torque converter automatic gearbox. My budget is around Rs 12-13 lakh on-road. I have shortlisted two options: the Skoda Kylaq Signature automatic and the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro automatic. We are a family of five. My current usage is mostly within the city, but based on my future work requirements, it could shift to an 80:20 mix of city and highway driving.

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Signature AT. For a new driver with predominantly city use, its 1.0 TSI with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic is smooth and easy to drive, while the compact dimensions make it relatively easy to manage in traffic. It also has a more mature, planted feel on the highway.The Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT is the better choice if rear-seat space is the priority. Its cabin is wider and more accommodating for a family of five, and its 1.2 turbo-petrol makes 200Nm, giving it stronger low-end and mid-range performance than the Kylaq.However, the 3XO's boot is also one of its compromises, while the Kylaq offers a better balance of driving dynamics, boot space and highway manners. With your usage potentially becoming 80:20 city/highway, the Kylaq's combination works particularly well.

Which car should I buy among Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Petrol base or Kia Seltos petrol base? And also tell me if anyone has faced power issue or pickup issue while overtaking as I want the car for long term.

Between the two, the Seltos is the better choice, especially if you are looking at the base variant. It feels more premium, is the newer product and offers a more complete package even in its lower variants.The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol makes 115hp and 144Nm. It isn't a particularly powerful engine, but it is smooth and refined and is perfectly adequate for normal city driving.For overtaking, it won't have the punch of the Seltos turbo, but it isn't underpowered either. With a full load and during quick highway overtakes, you may need to plan ahead and use higher revs. The Grand Vitara's 1.5 petrol is also a smooth, simple powertrain, but its performance is more relaxed and the base variant is quite sparsely equipped.
