Hi, this will be my first car and my budget is Rs. 10 lakhs for an automatic transmission. I am looking for a city car primarily with occasional long distance trips. Can you suggest a car that has smooth transmission within this budget and also has a decent after sale service but still it is not too expensive to maintain? I am okay with both hatchback and sub-4 meter SUV options if available.

For a first car under 10 lakh and a focus on city driving with occasional long trips, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT is the most sensible recommendation. It is a well-rounded hatchback with a smooth AMT gearbox, excellent fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs. Maruti’s service network is the strongest in the country, which keeps ownership hassle-free and affordable. A strong alternative is the Hyundai i20. It comes with a CVT which is totally seamless and much smoother than the Maruti's AMT. It is also comfortable, easy to drive and Hyundai has a strong reputation for reliability and aftersales service.

The Baleno strikes the best balance between smoothness, practicality and long-term ownership costs.

Currently, I own Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha 1.3 (2017) diesel that has crossed 12,000km and its current mileage is 14kpl in the city. At what price should I sell this as I currently have an offer for Rs. 3 - 3.5 lakh. Once I sell my car, which SUV should I buy for my family under Rs. 15 lakh ( maximum on-road budget). I prefer comfort, space, mileage and performance and I prefer to keep the car for at least 10 years. My 85% usage is in the Kanpur city (Tier-2 city) and my monthly driving is 1000-1100 km. In 4-5 months, I travel from Kanpur to Delhi or from Kanpur to Jaipur. I am confused about what should I do with issues like the current ethanol blending scenario in India, diesel bio mixing, diesel DPF problem, EV infrastructure issue as well as range problem and battery degradation. Which fuel variant should I be looking at?

Since your diesel Baleno is nearing 10 years, and you're being offered Rs 3-3.5 lakhs for it, it makes sense to sell it. Keeping your usage in mind, we'd recommend you to shortlist the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG and the Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel. Both these are very sensible, comfortable choices, and are likely to return strong efficiency. The Mahindra has an edge as far as performance goes. In summary, if you don't mind the long CNG queues at refilling pumps, the Brezza CNG will be an economical option, which is further backed by Maruti's widespread network. However, if you want a fill-it, shut-it, forget-in option the XUV 3XO diesel is a good choice.

I currently own a used Maruti Ciaz (2025) and am planning to shift to a smaller car since my regular driving is within the city and occasional long highway rides. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R ZXI+ 1.2 is a sensible choice for your requirements. It is compact, easy to drive in the city, and the 1.2-litre engine also gives it enough performance for occasional highway runs.However, coming from a Ciaz, you will notice a significant step down in overall refinement, ride comfort and highway stability. The Wagon R is primarily a city car, and while it can handle highway trips, it does not feel as composed or as comfortable at higher speeds as a larger hatchback.Instead, consider the Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift as it would be a better fit and its smaller car than your Ciaz but you won't be compromising too much on comfort and highway ability. I am planning to buy a hatchback. We currently own a Swift ZDi AMT and an Ertiga ZXi AT. The Swift has done around 1,30,000 km, while the Ertiga has only 12,000 km on the odometer. I am based in Bangalore. I mainly use the Ertiga for my daily commute to work, which involves a lot of bumper-to-bumper traffic and finding It difficult to drive Ertiga. I drive around 1,200-1,500 km per month, mostly for my daily office commute (around 20 km) and highway driving on weekends. I am considering trading in the Swift and upgrading to a new Swift ZXi+ AMT. My main priorities are hassle-free ownership and decent mileage. Before I finalise the Swift, are there any other hatchbacks that I should consider?

I have a Tata Nexon Creative AMT that is only a year old, but I have already had to replace the spark plugs four times and the ignition coil once. I am still facing engine misfires and vibrations inside the car. I am honestly fed up with Tata's service, as they have been unable to resolve the issue. I am planning to buy a sub-compact SUV. My budget is Rs. 13-14 lakh, and my priorities are a smooth automatic transmission and good mileage. I am considering the Brezza ZXi AT, Sonet HXT DCT, and Venue HX6 DCT. I am very confused because the Brezza’s torque-converter automatic offers good fuel efficiency but lacks some features, while the Sonet and Venue offer all the features I need. However, I am concerned that the DCT may be less fuel-efficient and could involve higher maintenance costs. My daily commute is around 30 km, mostly in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. Please suggest which one would be the best choice for my requirements.

The 1.2 NA petrol is smooth, refined and easy to drive in stop-start conditions, while Hyundai’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment.
