Hello, I have a family of 5 adults and 1 child. Should I go for a 5-seater SUV or a 7-seater car? My preference is for a petrol automatic car with good safety and fuel efficiency. The car will mainly be used for city driving with 2-3 people, along with occasional full-load highway trips. I have shortlisted 5-seater options including: * Tata Sierra Pure Petrol - feels underpowered * Kia Seltos - concerned about its length for city driving * Renault Duster - good car, but concerned about rear-seat space * Skoda Kushaq - like it a lot, but rear-seat space is a concern 7-seater options that I have shortlisted: * Tata Safari - like it for safety and mileage, but it is out of budget * Mahindra XUV 7X0 - low fuel efficiency and slightly out of budget * Kia Clavis - concerned about safety * Maruti XL6 - good mileage but safety is a concern My budget is Rs. 15-17 lakh for a 5-seater and can stretch up to Rs. 20 lakh for a 7-seater.

If 6 people are going to sit in the vehicle, you should get a 6/7-seater. Among your choices, the Kia Carens Clavis lines up best. Even though it doesn't have an official crash test rating, it is much better than having one extra unbelted occupant in a 5-seater. As standard, it comes with 6 airbags, ABS, 4-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors, 3-point seat belts with reminder, and ISOFIX mounts. It isn't very large, so it doesn’t become cumbersome to drive and park in the city, and the light steering helps in tight spaces. It also has a very usable third row that can seat adults comfortably.

Your Rs. 20 lakh budget will get you the HTK Plus with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol DCT combo. It is a refined powertrain with enough performance for quick overtakes even with a full load. The XL6’s torque-converter auto will feel slightly smoother in traffic, but overall, the Clavis is the better choice.

My requirement is a 6-7 seater vehicle. For low maintenance cost, I can go with either CNG or diesel car as my monthly running is 1000 km and occasionally it can be as high as 2000-3000 km monthly. I am from Pune and my frequent outstation routes will be Mumbai, Kolhapur, Latur and Kokan area (ghat sections). Also, since I can rent it out as self driving car and I will own upto 7-10 years. I have owned Alto, Wagon R, SX4, EON and i20 active disel. I have mentioned vehicles so that you can understand my driving and owning experience.

Given your requirements, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG is the most sensible recommendation. Your monthly running of around 1,000 km, with occasional spikes, does not justify a diesel, especially with the higher purchase cost and maintenance associated with modern diesel engines. Hi everyone, I'm confused between the Kiger Emotion Turbo CVT (~Rs 12.7 lakh on-road) and the Nexon Creative+ S DCA (~Rs 15.5 lakh on-road). My priorities are safety, a smooth automatic for 90-minute Bangalore traffic, rear-seat comfort, good ground clearance, and occasional ghat/highway trips. Roads are mostly okay but sometimes rough. Is the extra Rs 2.8 lakh for the Nexon DCA justified over the Kiger CVT? The Renault Kiger Turbo CVT is the better choice given your priorities of a smooth automatic for Bangalore traffic, good ground clearance, rear-seat comfort and occasional ghat/highway trips. The Tata Nexon DCA is a more premium car with a lengthier features list; however, the Rs 2.8 lakh price difference is significant, making the Renault car feel far better value for money.Alternatively, you could consider the entry-level automatic variants of the Skoda Kylaq and Mahindra XUV 3XO, both of which feel better built, are more refined, and deliver stronger performance than the Kiger Turbo CVT.

Hi! My wife is a dentist and currently drives a Dzire. Her hospital is nearby, and her average monthly running is less than 500km. We are planning a new car. We are considering the new 1.0 Brezza, the Punch EV, or even the Tiago EV because of uncertainty around petrol in the future. Our son wants a Creta or Seltos base model. I have a Hyryder base model. Given your wife's usage of less than 500km a month and mostly short city runs, the Tata Punch EV is the more sensible choice here. It is a proven electric car with a compact footprint that's well-suited to the city, and the powertrain is smooth and refined. The Tiago EV is a good option too, but the Punch EV offers more space, comfort, features, range and ground clearance. And that too, for not a huge premium, and since it's in your budget, you should choose it. Plus, being an EV, running and maintenance costs are very low. Tata is the market leader in EVs, and its service stations are well geared to handle electric cars.The Brezza Turbo is a good option too, but feels unnecessary for your wife's intended usage. It's larger and not as easy to manoeuvre, and it's only available with a manual gearbox, which for short urban driving spells is not as easy as an automatic, which the EV is.It's for these same reasons the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta don't make sense here. Overall, since you have a larger car in the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, a compact EV like the Punch makes most sense. Just make sure you can have a wallbox charger installed at your home, as that is crucial to EV ownership in India.

It has the most comfortable ride in the segment, with a suspension that deals with broken roads and potholes better than the Brezza or Nexon. The wide rear seat and good cabin space will also make a difference for your wife and family. The Brezza is the more reliable long-term ownership proposition, but its ride is not as plush as the 3XO. I am planning to buy the Tata Harrier Adventure X Plus Dark Petrol Manual, and I booked it two months ago. However, I am not sure whether I will receive the car within the promised timeline. Should I continue waiting, or should I start looking at other available options? Also, could you tell me the expected waiting period for the above-mentioned Harrier variant? With a running of just 6,000 km a year, a petrol engine is the right choice, and the Harrier petrol is a good fit if you like the size and space. The bigger question is the waiting period. Tata’s official waiting periods can vary by city and dealer, but for the Harrier petrol, it is not unusual to see waits of 2-3 months depending on demand and allocation. If your dealer is already saying it may not arrive on time, it is worth checking with other Tata dealers in your city to see if they have a shorter queue or a cancelled booking in the same variant.If you are happy with the Harrier’s space and comfort, it is worth waiting a few more weeks rather than switching to a different car. The only reason to change would be if you need the car urgently. In that case, the Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol is the closest alternative.
