Mahindra Racing celebrated an impressive 2-3 podium finish in Race 2 of the inaugural New York City ePrix weekend.

Carrying the momentum from the team’s maiden win and double podium last month in Berlin, drivers Felix Rosenqvist and Nick Heidfeld started strong. The duo, driving the all-electric M3Electro racecar, stood second and fifth on the starting grid.

Swedish driver Rosenqvist took advantage of a clean starting line to pass eventual winner Sam Bird into the first corner of the 49-lap race. Heidfeld also made gains in the opening laps of the race to follow his teammate into the podium positions. However, they were unable to hold the lead, as Bird took back P1 shortly after lap 10.

The 2-3 podium finish was a vast step-up from the disappointing performance in Saturday's Race 1 on the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal circuit. It saw Rosenqvist finish 15th after his spectacular climb through the field from 17th on the grid to fifth, while Heidfeld had to retire due to a damaged suspension.

With the double podium, Mahindra Racing has strengthened its hold on third position in the Teams’ Championship. For its next and final two-race weekend, the 2016-17 FIA Formula E Championship will head to the Montreal Street Circuit in Canada.
