Former F1 driver Nick Heidfeld and former Mahindra Formula E team principal Dilbagh Gill revealed plans for a new electric feeder series at the Hyderabad E-Prix last year. The series, earlier called Ace Championship, has been renamed FG Series, and the first renders of its unique “dual championship” race car have been revealed.

  1. FG-Twin capable of dual power levels of up to 350kW
  2. Claimed top speed of over 240kph

FG Series: What is it?

The FG Series has been conceptualised as an affordable feeder series for Formula E and other electric racing championships. The all-electric series will have two levels: FG2 for youngsters emerging from karting and junior disciplines and FG1 for more experienced racers.

The idea is to have a single car that can compete in both levels by unlocking different power levels and setups. It means one team can have four drivers using just two cars, thereby drastically bringing down costs.

FG Series: FG-Twin race car revealed

The FG-Twin has been designed by Daniel Simon, known for vehicle designs in movies such as Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy. He’s also the brain behind the Robocar autonomous racer and the 2011 HRT F1 car’s livery.

Described as a “modular racer car”, the FG-Twin features both two- and four-wheel drive (depending on which level of racing it’s being used for) and dual power levels of up to 350kW (476hp).

The top-tier FG1 will have a higher power level, along with increased downforce and greater freedom in car setup. The same car can then be converted into the entry-level FG2 racer, which will have lower power and a simpler aerodynamic package.

Both cars will feature integrated LED screens and lighting systems to communicate key racing information such as battery status, race positions, and fastest lap holder. There will also be a power boost function.

The FG-Twin will weigh 880kg and use a 55kWh battery. FG Series says it will be capable of a top speed of over 240kph and a 0–100kph time of 2.1 seconds.

FG Series: Where will races be held?

The organisers are targeting a 2025 debut for the FG Series, but the full calendar will only be announced later this year. What we do know is that there are plans to race in India. Rounds will be held on regional circuits, with a focus on bringing the series to areas that are currently underrepresented in the existing championships.
