Akhil Rabindra finished on the podium in both races at the Imola season opener of the 2022 GT4 European Series. The 25-year-old Aston Martin Driver Academy racer is the only Asian competing in the series this year.

    Race 1

Rabindra is back behind the wheel of an Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 in the Silver Cup class, but he’s racing for an all-new team – Racing Spirit of Léman – this year. He’s sharing driving duties with 2019 British GT4 champion Tom Canning.

The duo qualified in fourth place for the first race. While they held on to that position at the chequered flag, they were promoted to third following the disqualification of the #13 Arkadia Alpine pair of Pierre-Louis Chovet and Johan Boris Scheier due to a technical infringement.

The duo finished third in the next race too, taking home a double podium result. Speaking after the podium celebrations, Rabindra said: “It has been a good start to the 2022 season. I am in a new team this year and have a new teammate who is doing a great job and I look forward to carrying forward this momentum to the next race in France.”

The next GT4 European Series round will take place at France’s Circuit Paul Ricard on June 3-5.
