Mahindra & Mahindra, in association with SAEINDIA, announced the launch of the fifth edition of BAJA SAEINDIA 2012.

The objective of the competition is to provide an opportunity for SAE student members to showcase their passion for automobiles by designing all terrain vehicles. BAJA SAEINDIA is an out-of-classroom educational pursuit for engineering college students, originally started in the USA.

Teams compete against one another to have their design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. Participants will have to form a team to design, build, test, promote, and run a vehicle. They also have to generate financial support for their project as well as manage their educational priorities.

The fifth edition of the BAJA SAEINDIA 2012 saw registrations from 250 teams. These teams will now compete against each other in virtual BAJA, a selection criteria where virtual mock-ups are created with exact specifications. The final rounds will have 100 shortlisted teams that will get a chance to showcase their vehicles at the NATRiP site in Pithampur, near Indore, in February 2012.
