(L to R) New FMSCI President Arindam Ghosh and Vice President Farooq Ahmed.

Former Indian rally racer Arindam Ghosh has been elected as the new President of the FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India), the body responsible for governance and promotion of motorsport in the country. Ghosh will take over the role from Akbar Ebrahim.

  1. Ghosh succeeds Akbar Ebrahim as new FMSCI president
  2. Farooq Ahmed elected vice president

The FMSCI convened its annual general meeting in Chennai on Wednesday, September 25. Based on the criteria of performance, 15 clubs were eligible to contest, and 17 were eligible to vote. Representing Ramakrishna Race Performance Management Pvt Ltd from Kolkata, Ghosh garnered more votes than BS Gautam from Karnataka Motor Sports Club, Bengaluru, to be elected president.

Ghosh has been an FMSCI council member in the past. He started his career in the driver’s seat, making podium appearances in events like the Himalayan Rally and Karnataka 1000. He then moved to the organisational side of motorsport with his company, Ramakrishna Race Performance Management, becoming a promoter for the Indian National Rally Championship and Indian National TSD Rally Championship. He becomes the third person from Kolkata to be elected the FMSCI’s president, after Suresh Kumar (1977-78) and Rajat Majumder (2005-08).

Farooq Ahmed from the Motor Sports Club of Chikmagalur was elected as the vice president unopposed, as the other candidate, J Balamurugan (Spitfire Motor Sports Pvt Ltd, Coimbatore) did not get elected to the FMSCI Council.

All FMSCI office bearers serve a term of two years, with a maximum of three terms (that is, six years).
