The 2025 Catalan MotoGP race saw Alex Marquez clinch his second victory of the season, disrupting brother Marc’s unbeaten victory run in the process. A hard-charging Enea Bastianini occupied the final position on the podium after fellow KTM rider, Pedro Acosta, encountered severe tyre wear in the latter half of the race.

Marquez vs Marquez for the win
Marc and Alex were engaged in a close fight for the win
While the Sprint race saw polesitter Alex crash out, the main race was altogether a different story. As the lights went out, Marc seized the early lead and, for the first few laps, managed to hold on to it. However, Alex retaliated on lap 4 to overtake his brother and take the lead. With a clear track ahead of him, Alex’s pace was electric, and even the usually strong finisher, Marc Marquez, couldn’t ultimately overtake his brother and had to settle for second place.
Bastianini is top KTM as Acosta fades due to tyre wear
Acosta’s move to go with the soft compound rear tyre cost him a potential podium
Behind the Marquez Vs Marquez battle was a battle of the KTMs – Pedro Acosta on the factory bike Vs Enea Bastianini on the Tech3 machine. Initially, Acosta was looking like he could trouble the Marquez brothers ahead of him, but as the race wore on, his soft compound rear tyre started to give way and he had to ease off. This meant that Bastianini (a seasoned racer and tyre whisperer himself) overtook his KTM compatriot and etched his name onto the final podium position available.
Bagnaia salvages top seven finish after torrid weekend
Starting the race in 21st, he made a remarkable charge toward the front
By any account (Francesco Bagnaia himself included), the two-time World Champion’s 2025 season has proved to be a rather challenging one, where he just hasn’t been able to find his rhythm with the Ducati GP25. Things came to a head in qualifying this weekend when he qualified 21st, on the penultimate row on the grid, behind even Honda’s test rider – Aleix Espargaro!
While his Sprint race was one to forget, Bagnaia mounted an impressive charge on the riders ahead of him in the full-length race. Lap after lap, multiple racers were the victim of Bagnaia’s assault, and ultimately, he crossed the finish line in seventh place, just behind Trackhouse Aprilia’s Ai Ogura (one of the three rookies on the 2025 MotoGP grid).

First match point for Marc will be in Japan
With his Sprint race win and second place in the main GP, Marc is 182 points clear of brother Alex and has seemingly got a firm grip on the 2025 rider’s championship crown. Having said that, his first match point (the race after which he is mathematically crowned champion) will not be at the next round in Misano (to be held on 12-14 September) and will happen at the first of the fly-away rounds in Japan on 26-28 September.
