Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has raised CNG prices by Rs 2 per kg for the second time in May 2026, pushing the rate in Mumbai to Rs 86 per kg, which is Rs 4 per kg higher than earlier this month. The hike has also impacted CNG prices across Thane, Navi Mumbai, and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
- Previous hikes: Rs 2 on May 14 and Rs 1 on April 12
- In May 2026, the MGL CNG price has hiked by 4.88 percent
MGL has not yet issued an official statement on the latest price hike. However, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking at a media conference in Nagpur, addressed the increase, saying, “Amid the ongoing global energy crisis, higher payments are needed to keep the supply chain running.” He further added that prices are expected to stabilise once the crisis eases.
Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai currently stand at Rs 111.21 per litre and Rs 97.83 per litre, respectively, following a nationwide fuel price hike of around Rs 3 implemented on May 25, 2026.
