India's electric two-wheeler segment registered sales of 1,70,570 units in May 2026, a 63 percent jump over the 1,04,896 units sold in May 2025. The month ranks as the second highest ever for the segment, behind only March 2026 when 1,99,268 units were retailed. A significant factor behind the surge was a sharp rise in petrol prices in the second half of May. The impact on buying behaviour was evident with 66,487 electric 2Ws sold in the first half of May versus 1,04,083 units sold in the second half.
