Volvo is a premium luxury car brand best known for its strong safety, clean Scandinavian design, and technology. Founded in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1927, the brand has built a distinct identity around these strengths.
In 2006, Volvo entered India with the S80 and XC90 and began local assembly in 2017, with the XC90 becoming the first model to be assembled at its facility near Bengaluru. Now, Volvo Cars currently sells 5 models in India: EX30, EC40, EX90, XC60, and XC90. This lineup focuses largely on SUVs and electrification, along with automatic transmissions. The EX30, EC40, and EX90 are fully electric, while the XC60 and XC90 use petrol engines with 48V mild-hybrid technology.
The Volvo EX90 has been launched in India in a single variant priced at .
Volvo EX30: Entry-level electric SUV with 272hp, RWD, and up to 480km claimed range.
Volvo is expanding its electric lineup in India with the ES90 electric sedan, which is expected to launch in late 2026, followed by the EX60 electric SUV in 2027. The EX90 electric SUV has already launched in India in a single variant, adding a larger, more premium EV to the brand’s range.
Volvo has built its reputation around safety, with a strong focus on both crash protection and accident prevention.
Modern Volvo cars are equipped with a wide range of active safety and driver-assistance features, and these systems use cameras, radar, and other sensors to identify potential hazards and can warn the driver or intervene when required, such as:
Volvo competes with the German luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi in the premium luxury segment, but its approach is different. While the German brands traditionally put greater emphasis on driving dynamics, performance, and brand prestige, Volvo focuses more on safety, comfort, understated Scandinavian design, and technology.

Recently, a Volvo XC90, often regarded as one of the safest cars, was reportedly involved in an accident and caught fire within a matter of seconds, resulting in the tragic death of a renowned neurosurgeon. What could be the possible reason for such a rapid and intense fire? While accidents can understandably cause injuries and trauma, a vehicle catching fire so quickly after what appears to be a relatively minor impact raises serious questions about fire safety and occupant protection. When a car costs around Rs 1.23 crore, buyers naturally expect a very high level of safety, including protection against such secondary hazards. If a relatively minor accident can result in a vehicle being engulfed in flames and a person being trapped inside, it is fair to question how such risks can be prevented. This is also not the first reported case of a luxury vehicle catching fire after an accident. I have come across similar reports in the past. What do you think could be the possible cause, and what safety measures should manufacturers consider to prevent such incidents?
Which is superior? Skoda Superb or Volvo xc60. Is the electric version of the xc60 available in India?
I am confused about which EV would be the best choice: the BMW iX1, a Volvo EV, or Mahindra XEV 9S. Are there any other EVs that I should also consider before making a decision? My only concern with the BMW iX1 is its interior.
I want to buy a premium SUV with a petrol engine. I am considering the XC60, GLC, and X3. Which one should I choose? My daily driving is around 20-25 km, with 70% city use and 30% highway driving. I would also like to know which reliable brand offers better after-sales service. Please suggest the best option.

This car is really good with excellent features. The range of 480 KM on a single charge seems to be the best among electric cars available in India. I would suggest this car as it offers a great deal.
