Confused between hyryder G CNG or Ebella. Have daily commute of 90 km. Monthly once will make a 700 km travel to home town.
The Ebella's prices haven't been announced yet, but going by its badge engineered version - Suzuki e Vitara's pricing, it is likely to be in the same ballpark, i.e. between Rs 16-20 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hyryder G CNG on the other hand tops out below Rs 18 lakh on-road. And while the Hyryder CNG is a manual, the good news is that its clutch and gearbox are light, so even though it isn't nearly as convenient as the EV, it doesn't feel cumbersome to drive. What you need to keep in mind however is that boot space is compromised due to the CNG tank, hence during your 700km drives, it could be inadequate.
Even the Ebella's boot is small, cabin floor is high (so the seating position is knees-up) and the infotainment's user-interface/user-experience is far from perfect. Also, while we haven't tested the Ebella's range, our preliminary tests indicate a highway range of about 370km, which means you will need to charge a few times on the way to your hometown, so you need to factor that in as well.
Between the two cars you've shortlisted, we'd recommend the Hyryder CNG, which is a tried and tested car. However, if you're open to options, the Maruti Victoris CNG will be ideal for you as it shares its platform, equipment and powertrain with the Hyryder, and thanks to its repositioned CNG tank (beneath the boot), luggage space doesn't feel as compromised as in the Toyota.

I am confused between the Seltos HTK (O) IVT petrol and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid. My driving is mostly on city roads, and I want to keep the SUV for at least the next 10 years. Please advise.
It purely depends on how much you drive per month and how important fuel efficiency is to you. As an example, the Kia Seltos IVT is likely to deliver around 10.3kpl in the city, whereas the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid is capable of delivering double that number.
With the Kia Seltos HTK(O) IVT, you get much more features, a more spacious and modern cabin, a bigger boot, and a more comfortable drive experience.
Even the base S hybrid variant of the Hyryder commands a substantial premium over the Seltos variant mentioned above, and does not offer several feel-good features available in the Kia. But if your running is high, the hybrid could make sense due to significantly lower fuel costs.
Overall, both cars will serve you well for a long tenure. You need to decide whether you want features and a thoroughly modern midsize SUV, or an extremely fuel-efficient one by sacrificing some features.

I own a 2018 Maruti Swift petrol manual. I am now looking for a bigger car with good ground clearance and better fuel efficiency. My daily commute is about 25 km. I liked the Tata Sierra. Should I wait for the Sierra EV or consider hybrids like the Grand Vitara? Hybrids come at a higher premium. Are they worth it, or should I go for an EV?
Unless you buy a strong hybrid vehicle, no other vehicle larger than your petrol Maruti Swift will deliver better fuel efficiency. That said, since your daily commute is only 25km, paying a premium for a hybrid vehicle or EV (over a similar petrol vehicle) doesn't make much financial sense.
If you like the Tata Sierra, we'd recommend stretching for the turbo-petrol version only. However, the fuel efficiency is likely to be low due to its 1.5-tonne kerb weight. Alternatively, you can opt for the 1.5 petrol (mild-hybrid) versions of Maruti Grand Vitara, Victoris or Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which are fuel-efficient and have good ground clearance.

My maximum budget is ₹23 lakh, and I will be driving mainly in the city for about 1800-2000 km per month. I am comparing the Tata Harrier (petrol automatic) with the Skoda Kushaq (petrol automatic with DSG). Which variant should I choose for my usage?
Since your running is quite high and that too in the city, a strong hybrid powertrain would be a good option to consider. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara or the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are mid-size SUVs with a strong hybrid powertrain and are excellent in the city. The battery and motor provide enough power for everyday driving, and they offer good ride comfort too.
That said, if you do not prefer a strong-hybrid SUV, the new updated Skoda Kushaq will be launching soon. It gets the same engine as before, but the 1.0-litre TSI motor will not get an 8-speed automatic instead. If you are a keen driver and enjoy getting behind the wheel, the Kushaq would be a better choice.
We would recommend that you wait for the launch. The Tata Harrier just got a new petrol engine, which is refined, but it's a bit too big for the city and isn't as polished as the Kushaq.

I want to purchase a new car. My monthly running is approximately 1,500km, generally from Gurugram to Delhi. I am confused between the Creta petrol and the Hyryder smart hybrid. Which one should I consider?
Between the two cars, the Hyundai Creta is a good choice. It feels more premium on the inside, is more spacious, and gets a more capable 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which works very well in stop-and-go traffic. If you opt for the CVT variant, it is silky smooth and proves to be an excellent city companion.
If you are considering the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and your budget allows, we would strongly suggest going for the strong hybrid instead of the standard version. Not only is it easier to drive in traffic, as it runs on the electric motor for a large part of the time, but it is also extremely fuel-efficient.
This is especially important given that you will be driving close to 20,000 km a year. In real-world conditions, where you might see around 10 kpl in Gurgaon Delhi traffic in a petrol SUV, the Hyryder Hybrid can realistically deliver over 20 kpl, resulting in significant savings over time.

Hi Team, I am looking for a mid-size SUV under Rs 20 lakhs with a diesel option. My usage will be 80% highway and 20% city. I was looking at the Seltos diesel version. Kindly suggest how to proceed further.
The new Kia Seltos diesel is a strong all-around package and a good fit for your requirements. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is refined, offers decent performance, and is pleasant to drive. The Seltos is also spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. Within your budget, you can opt for the HTK variant if you are looking at the automatic, or the HTK (O) if you prefer a manual transmission. Given that around 80% of your driving will be on the highway, it is highly unlikely that you will face any DPF-related issues.
Another diesel option worth considering is the new Tata Sierra. Compared to the Seltos, the Sierra is even more spacious, and its wider cabin makes it a very comfortable five-seater. It also scores slightly higher on comfort thanks to its plush ride quality. However, the Sierra is priced on the higher side, so variants comparable in price to the Seltos are not as well equipped, and its diesel engine is not as refined.
One factor to note is that with stricter emission norms, diesel engines are no longer as fuel-efficient as they once were. If fuel efficiency is your absolute top priority, you should also consider strong hybrid powertrains such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Grand Vitara, or Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, all of which can return over 20 kpl in both city and highway driving.
The upcoming Renault Duster is also expected to get a strong hybrid powertrain around Diwali, so that could be another option if you are willing to wait.

My monthly running is between 2500 and 3500 km. I am currently using a diesel car and prefer to keep it till the warranty. After that, should I buy a diesel or a hybrid for 1000km highway, rest city?
You are right - with such high usage per month, your choice is between a diesel and a hybrid; a petrol car's running costs would be too high. Without knowing your budget, it's hard to say which segment you are looking at. But overall, while a diesel is a good option, since your usage is more in the city than on the highway, a good, strong hybrid makes more sense.
For the majority of your use in the city, the car will likely run on electric power alone, with the engine only stepping in to recharge the battery. And on the highway, you have a good mix of engine power, e-power, and regeneration.
Cars like the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Victoris or Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara are good options in the Rs 18-25 lakh range, but if you can spend Rs 30 lakh plus, consider the Toyota Innova HyCross, which has the added bonus of more space.
If your budget is closer to Rs 50 lakh, there is the excellent Toyota Camry Hybrid, and if it is higher still, you can explore the Lexus range of luxury hybrids.

The Kia Seltos is newer, smoother, and it feels more modern compared to a Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Kia's petrol-IVT combination is very smooth and seamless, and Kia has got the suspension tune spot on for comfort.
Moreover, its front seats are broader and more comfortable than the Toyota's, so you will be able to spend long hours driving on the highway without fatigue.

Of the two options you've shortlisted, the Kia Seltos HTK (O) with the CVT automatic is the better choice for you. It is more spacious and comfortable, and its powertrain is smoother and more powerful, too. Moreover, it is a newer car with a more up-market cabin, including modern tech and features. It's also far more spacious - both in the rear seat and the boot - and better for five passengers. It's an easy SUV to drive, too, with a tall seating position and good visibility.
The one advantage the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has is that its real-world fuel efficiency is a bit better. But on every other front, the Kia Seltos comes out on top.

I am planning to buy a bigger car which has features, is not underpowered and gives good mileage. Should I go for Hyryder or Victoris Strong Hybrid, or wait for Honda Elevate Strong Hybrid or Duster Strong Hybrid?
Between the Maruti Victoris and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the choice also comes down to brand preference, as underneath both cars are almost identical, sharing a similar powertrain, chassis and fuel efficiency.
That said, as a product, the Victoris feels newer. It has better quality interiors, offers more safety and convenience features, and has also secured a 5-star BNCAP rating. With both cars being similarly priced, the Victoris comes across as a better value overall.
If you are willing to wait until Diwali this year, we would also suggest keeping an eye on the new Renault Duster Hybrid. Its hybrid system works differently from the Toyota Maruti setup and is expected to feel more natural to drive, with stronger performance as well.
As for the Honda Elevate, we do not expect a hybrid version to be launched. Honda is likely to focus more on its EV plans for India instead.
