The upcoming Renault Bigster is primarily for those who want the Duster but with the added practicality of 7 seats and bigger dimensions.
 

Renault could bring the Bigster to India with the same set of engine and gearbox options as the Duster. This means that the upcoming Renault midsize SUV is likely to be offered in our market with a choice of two turbo-petrol engines. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol powering the Duster makes 163hp and 280Nm, while the punchier 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit produces 163hp and 280Nm. These engines are most likely to be mated to the same set of manual and automatic gearbox options as in the Duster. The Bigster is also expected to be available with a strong hybrid powertrain that, in the Duster, pairs a 109hp 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 49hp electric motor, a 20hp hybrid starter generator and a 1.4kWh battery.
 

The interior of the Renault Bigster is expected to have a similar design language as the one used in the new-gen Duster. This means that you can expect a modern-looking cabin with dual digital displays and even recycled materials for some of the trim. Other amenities are likely to include wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, wireless charging, powered and ventilated front seats, and more. The build and material quality are expected to be as good as the Duster’s.
 

Since it’s to be based on the same platform as the new-gen Duster, the upcoming Renault Bigster is likely to share its balanced ride and handling qualities as well.
 

While there will be a third row of seats in the upcoming Renault Bigster, these are likely to be limited in kneeroom and legroom, which means that they are likely to be best suited for children or smaller-framed adults.

The Renault Bigster could have a mileage that’s slightly worse than the new-gen Duster with a similar powertrain, likely due to its higher expected kerb weight. For reference, the Duster with the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a 6-speed DCT gearbox has a claimed ARAI mileage of 18.45kpl, and that of the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with the 6-speed manual has a claimed mileage of 19.41kpl. The Hyundai Alcazar, one of the rivals of the upcoming Bigster, has an ARAI mileage of up to 18kpl (depending on the gearbox option). As for the MG Hector, its mileage ranges between 12.40kpl to 13.94kpl.
